If anything I thought he would develop into a defensive midfielder. Good passing and enjoys a tackle, all be it a little Rash at times. He obviously had a decent football brain and shielding the back 4 means that why he is learning he won’t get exposed in one on one battles

Some of the world's best CBs were just as error-prone or didn't even play at Foyth's age. He needs to learn when to take risks, for sure. But that can easily be sorted out. He's had some bad games, but he's also had some excellent games such as against Dortmund or when he pocketed Sterling against City at the Etihad in the PL.
Agree about CBs being error prone, just because it’s our own team you always think it’s just us it happens too,
Remember England game and Stones had a mare of a Semi-Final.

Godin was playing at Villareal, Chiellini was back-up for Juve, Koulibaly was playing for Genk in Belgium and VVD was playing for Celtic. Only Ramos was at top level at his age.

And people thinking he won't be good enough despite 1200 minutes this season for Tottenham under one of the best coaches in the world. And he also wants to improve by himself using WyScout. Funny

I honestly think Foyth has the pedigree to be a world class CB. The big question mark hanging over him right now is whether those mistakes are due to inexperience, or indicative of a lack of concentration. If he cuts those mistakes out, there’s no limit to his potential.

Really don’t know what people see in Foyth. That red card v Bournemouth did it for me. Not to mention 2 penalties against wolves. The guy isn’t and won’t be good enough in defence despite having quick feet and nice passing

EDIT - and his faffing about as the last man away at the Immigrants which turned the game. Too unreliable

Wow haha that was a popular post :cautious:

No defenders are mistake free. Where has this myth come from? Central defenders can have games where nothing gets past them but a full back will very very rarely have that. It's the nature of the position that they will often come up against either the fastest or the best players on the pitch.

Ledley King was mistake free. ;)

This guy in our team right now. Dear lord, what a player.

When i say mistake free.... i'm talking about shocking mistakes like Bournemouth red card, Wolves penalties etc. Not mistakes that will happen, those that most definitely shouldn't through experience.

Exactly Pique and Ramos are clear examples, probably the two most decorated CBs playing right now.

John Stones was just as error prone at 21 (and arguably still is), but that didn't stop City making him the most expensive CB ever (at the time).

He wasn't when he was between Foyth and Sanchez' age. Some would say he cost us the League Cup trophy in 2002.
Easy to forget that he was all over the place at a stage of his career. He was an exciting prospect, but far from the finished article. Needed a season with experienced former world class defender Naybet to learn the game, and that happened at the same age Sanchez is now. Foyth two years younger than that again.

I have extremely high hopes for Foyth. He reads the game incredibly well for someone his age. He already has an Alderweireld-esque knack for being in the right place at the right time in the box.

It’s true he’s had some high profile errors but he’s young and I’d hope/expect those to get cut down with time and experience. The fact is I’d rather see those one or two errors (even if high profile) rather than him making last ditch tackles, which fans may love but often are just an indication of poor game reading and poor positioning.

I also think people need to seriously re-check and re-evaluate their expectations for someone his age.

I strongly suspect we will see a lot more of him at Rb. He has all of the attributes to play there. Great on the ball, attack minded and skillful.

Every time I see Foyth mentioned I get flashbacks to when we wanted a CM and then Dier stepped up and at that time did wonderfully for us .
I feel this could be another Poch/ coaching masterstroke with Foyth

To everyone who hasn't kept up with the ITK!!! Please read the latest pages of the thread!

It's in the transfer section because Herc gave ITK (which I think automatically moves it to here) that Poch may attempt to "transfer" Foyth to play RB.

FWIW I think he'll be fantastic there and I would gladly welcome the competition for Serge and KWP and sell Trippier if we think that's best right now.

Foyth can be like our Paulo Maldini. Let's not forget the amazing Maldini started playing regularly for AC Milan as a left-back. I don't think he moved to the middle in his mid-30s (I think). And there he stayed until his retirement, as one of the best defenders in history.
