I would put Dawson on for Bentaleb (put Capoue back in mid) and Soldado on for Ade (he's just not pressing).

Ok, poch will have talked to them at half time and hopefully come up with a way to cope with the one less man, there's no need for the wrist slitting yet guys and gals, theres another 45 to play and we're still level.

We can do this!

Personally, I think Lamela has been the only one playing the pressing style instilled in pre season, he has won the ball a couple of times in advanced positions and instigate a couple of our best attacks.

No good next to capoue. Stick by what I said the other day and would much prefer Mason next to him. The fit more naturally.

I was really hoping Capoue would be partnered by Mason after what we saw in pre-season, and ven if that was wishful thinking, surely Holtby was the other obvious answer.

I do rate Bentaleb but I don't think he matches with Capoue brilliantly and I also think he's still mainly made up of potential rather than end product.

Great against weaker sides in home games. Still not right putting him into high pressure games like this, he's not ready.

Not watching the game. 45m with barely a chance created and unable to deal with balls into the box.

Is it as bad as it sounds?

Not quite, we're not as open as we were last season but going forward, we've offered nothing.

Even before the sending off, Lennon and Lamela were tucking in and creating a cluster f*ck behind Ade. Lamela's capable of coming inside and creating a chance but Lennon has disappeared into a black hole.

Even before the sending off, that was remarkably disappointing. A lot of people were opining that our front 4 looked good and our back 4 looked weak. In practice, the front 4, despite having 3/4 of the ball for the first 15 minutes, made absolutely nothing happen throughout the first half, whereas the back 4 coped reasonably well, with the exception of Rose, who was having real problems with Downing's experience and positional knowledge. Kaboul looks a bit weak in the challenge, but Dier has been solid and Naughton, prior to his unfortunate handball, was doing OK.

15 minutes before the penalty incident, we started to lose control of the game. The promised pressing high up the pitch has not materialised at all - I've seen absolutely no one do it, not once. So we were losing the ball and not winning it back. West Ham have done nothing inspired or even especially crafty, they've just given the ball to Downing and let him aim for Cole, which hasn't worked badly, except that Cole is so clumsy that they've not had many shots on target and Lloris has made few saves and has had very little to clear up coming off his line.

Then Naughton flung his arms in the air. It was a sure penalty, despite the closeness of attcker and defender, but sending him off seemed way over the top, as it plainly wasn't a premeditated attempt to block the ball. The rest of the half consisted of West Ham attacking in a sort of 'combine-harvester' fashion and us defending with varying degrees of calm.

But there's no hint of how we're supposed to find a goal. Not one of the attacking players has done a single thing of interest since the sending-off, except Lennon's shot over the bar. Eriksen is invisible, Adebayor can't get free of a defender, Lamela yet again looks promising and then loses out to challenge and Lennon scurries about, but is having to spend most of his time defending. We have very little ball, we lose it under pressure and we are spending 3/4 of the time defending. If that remains the pattern, West Ham will eventually find a goal or two.

To be honest id be worried if Foy isn't on the take, I mean how ill would he have to be to think the red was the right call??

Oh and Danny Rose, stop letting Downing cross with his left. Actually, radical idea, try stopping him crossing full stop.

No, I'll be watching spurs at 10pm, can't you work out time zones?

I wasn't talking specifically about this game and it was just a flippant response so I don't know why some of you are getting your knickers in a twist.
the guy said he loves watching game in oz as they are all on live. very true however over the course of a season i would venture that most of our games would have a 3pm kick off in the uk? also given that most of the games are played during the winter, they will be on @ 2am in oz. I was out by an hour but I can work out my time zones.

And by the way, the west hame game started @ midnight over in oz so not sure what game you were watching at 10pm...

Lamela's the only one that's been pressing as asked by poch. The others are shell-shocked by the 'first game factor'. He's the only one switched on.

How we played in pre-season is how they are being trained. Today the players have just shat it and forgotten everything they've learned in the last few weeks.

AVB and sherwood wanted us to press high up the pitch to, you can lead the horse to water but you can make him drink
