The atmosphere at WHL

I know we have had threads on this in the past, and that our atmospheres declined over the years, but yesterday was an all time low for me, I've never heard our support so bad and it's embarrassing.

Crystal Palace may not be our main rivals, but it was still a London Derby, and they were awesome yesterday, out sang us from start to finish, and taking the piss out of our support, which they were spot on with.

It really has got that bad, that even after Eriksen scoring, Adebayor was more incensed in jeering the crowd up and looked angry at the support we had given, rather than go celebrate with Eriksen, and he is right to do so.

It's no coincidence that our home form has suffered lately, and I put a large factor of this to our home support.
It's affecting the players, and references have been made by managers recently about the tense atmosphere.
It's as if our fans are too shy to start singing and they'll sing one line and then just fade out, but aren't too shy to boo or throw there abuse out when things aren't going well.

I think it's time that this has to be addressed with the club. Maybe if the Tottenham Supporters club can raise it, or another way, but something needs to be done, otherwise our new stadium is going to be pointless if we can only generate an atmosphere when we score and only sing 1 song.

The club needs to embrace the 1882 Movement more and split 2 big groups at either side of the ground. They should also make all efforts to bring the drummer back, or if not, employ their own drummer on home match days, as our atmosphere has never been the same since the drummer left.

Anyone else have any ideas, opinions and ways that the club can be brought to this attention to address.

I mentioned this last night, but I'll say it again in here.

We need a singing section (somewhere in PL lower ideally). Whether this is called the 1882 block, or just a general singing area is irrelevant. Even if the club just give a block that title, it will change the mindset of the people who buy tickets in that block.

It should be made clear on the website which block is the singing block so that the much older / much younger or just any fans who don't want to be in amongst that, can buy elsewhere.

It needs to be done immediately, but I'm worried it won't change until we move to our new stadium in 2084.

It will be alot worse in any new bigger stadium, be sure of that.

Yeah, needs to be addressed now and then these plans or whatever it is they could do, transferred to the new stadium.

It's like our main support comes from Park Lane and Shelf sides, and if I remember right, we will move into our new stadium without the them 2 sections of the stadium as it will be incomplete.

I was there and completely agree that it was poor - though sadly this has become the norm so wasn't surprised.

I really don't get much enjoyment at all out of going to games like yesterday. I do try! But it just isn't fun. Away games + 1882 games are awesome still, but it's almost a chore on days like yesterday.

That's not how it's meant to be!!

Watching on Sky now, truely terrible support. Any reasons as to why it is?

That was my first time over at the Lane this season, and as the op stated, I was also well aware of a declining atmosphere but wow yesterday was a real shock to me. I was sat in the PL upper beside the away fans. The thing that shocked me was the amount of abuse being shouted to our players and Sherwood. It was ridiculous, one fella sat behind me never shut his mouth the whole first half when things weren't going well, yet as soon as we started doing better in the second half he just sat there quiet. There were 3 of us that travelled over from Belfast yesterday, and all agreed that we'll try an away game next as the match day experience is just so poor now at the Lane and just not worth the money or effort it takes to get there. Never thought I'd ever see the day that I'd feel like that. :-(

I have given my opinion in another thread but from what I gather it is not just happening at WHL

There are several reasons for the reduction in atmosphere

I like the singing section idea. It should be like re creating the away support which for nearly every club is the die hard passionate support of the club. There are just too many occasional visitors who don't know the songs chants ect They come for the experience not to create it

Lots more to say but would make post too long

I think it's all the managerial changes and selling our top players.

Too many false dawns. The fans are sulking.

I've made a few threads on this. I don't know why I bother going tbh, I don't mind spending the money in terms of the result as that's a risk you take but the atmosphere is a joke. Stick to away and 1882 games.

In my opinion it's a combination of, we've lost the drummer, a number of songs that we used to sing, and the main factor is that we're more of a successful team, which I use that term loosely.

Back in the 90s and early 00's we went into majority of the games as either underdogs or even favourites. This put fans mindsets, that we needed to get behind the team to gain an upper hand in any form we could have some control over.

Now it seems we have had some sort of success, in the sense of being a regular top 4-5 club, we go into the majority of games as odds on favourites, which breeds the modern fan as the team needs to be entertaining, performing and winning in order for them to start singing or creating any sort of atmosphere.

It helps if the team performs well though. It's difficult to sing when the players don't put in the effort. I always sing regardless whenever I go to a game but I can't blame those who don't sing when we're so poor.

The atmosphere yesterday was truly awful, I mentioned it in another thread yesterday and I was embarrassed how bad it was. 1882 needs a permanent section.

In my opinion our support shouldn't be dependent on our performance. Surely as fans we goto enjoy a day out and backing the team and being a part of a vibrant atmosphere which adds to the experience.
I agree that's the case though and people have every right to song or not sing, and is fine if it's a small number, but it seems it's the case with a high percentage of our support lately.

Grounds with the worst atmosphere in the Premiership:

1st - Chelsea
2nd - Spurs

It's an absolute joke but in all honesty does no more than mirror the vitriol, spite and negativity found on this forum. The utter shit that is relentlessly spouted on here and no doubt other fan sites has found it's way in to the ground and we are being watched by a bunch of miserable, know better, FM playing football geniuses.

As an aside, anybody who watched the Atletico v Barca game last night would see what a football atmosphere should be like. It even masked a pretty poor game, was just a non stop sea of noise!
