I'm going to bet that Asamoah Gyan gets a move back to Europe after the world cup.

Don't rate Rogic and I've seen a lot of him, weak and bottles it under pressure, was cut due to injury.

I'm an Aussie and I will be watching our boys closely and optimistically, would love spurs to get an Aussie lad about the squad (or in the premiere league for that matter Jedinak isn't much chop).

A few names to keep an eye on would be Ben Halloran (Fortuna Dusseldorf), Mathew Leckie (FSV Frankfurt), Adam Taggart (Young pure goal scorer) and as many have mentioned Matty Ryan seems set for a decent career.

Wow Rogic cut. I think I'm right in saying that it was a certain Massimo Luongo who took his place.

Rogic picked up an injury mate, was not fit to make the squad. :(

I am also a huge fan of Ryan, would love to see him at Spurs. Given how well he has done in Belgium i cant see him going to another club unless he is a guaranteed starter.

Could not disagree with you more, watched him play every game for CCM. Have not seen an Australian with his technical ability for a very very long time. Only reason his game hasn't improved since he left CCM is because he doesn't fit into Celtics formation, and Lennon is a tard.

I doubt most teams would be willing to match his current wages, £140k p/w after tax is quite a bit!

Maybe sounded harsh, but I dont think he is premiere league quality obviously. Dont think he ever will be.

Yep.
People are drastically underrating the two big Asian sides (Japan and Korea)...both have groups that they can very easily get out of, and they really know how to play football. Many write them off because they take many players from their respective domestic leagues, but the quality of football played in those leagues as far as level of technique goes is very high. These two teams are well ahead in Asia, and they really have excellent youth development setups throughout the country now, I'd say on par with how the Dutch used to do it. South Korea's run under Hiddink was no fluke.
It's easy to pick up on because the Japanese women's team plays a level of football 100x better than any other women's team...they don't always win because in women's football tons of other things come into play, and the fact that they're all under 5 feet doesn't help, but still.
The Japanese especially have created an excellent football setup, the players aren't always the most physically gifted but they can absolutely play, at very high levels. 2 good fullbacks as well. They also have a very experienced manager who knows how to win in Zaccheroni.
Japan and Korea are two sides that can go deep in this tournament, assuming they can handle the other factors. I put a little money on both to win, hoping I can hedge off it a bit.

Edit: Thought this was the WC discussion thread, missed the player discoveries part. Oh well.

I really am hoping Japan do well in this tournament, they deserve it. Love the way they play football and their culture in general. They've grown a lot in the last decade, and the fact that more and more players are featuring in europe can only help them with experience.

In the last world cup, they lost to Paraguay on penalties who were there for the taking IMO. In the whole tournament they looked apprehensive. Thankfully Zaccheroni has come in, given them a bit of tactical know-how, but without compromising their courageous style of play. They can still get very exposed defensively and are prone to wasting too many chances up front (Okazaki probably the closest they have to a reliable striker, as he plays in bundesliga and finished the season on form). Sort out the issues and they can go further than they've ever done in the world cup. If they don't, they'll be fun to watch anyways

Theirs is a tough group to predict though!

If we are looking for a lb from the world cup, I think Miguel Layún from Mexico is one to keep an eye on. He's quick as lightning and is equally comfortable on both the right and the left. He's got a killer cross and just really good attacking instincts from what I've seen. I haven't seen too many games of his at America, but he's looked Mexico's best player the last couple of times I've watched them. He's not that young, at 25, but I think he's just a late bloomer. He's looked good defensively when I've watched them, but his strengths definitely lie in going forward. I think we could do much worse if we were looking to either replace Naughton or buy cheap competition for Rose.

As another Aussie ( an old one who remembers every WC qualifying campaign since 1969) I don't think Ryan will have done himself any favours with his performances so far. Certainly at fault for Holland's winning goal and will have to improve massively if he's ever to get a move to a better league.

Schwarzer would have dealt with that effort, I thought Leckie and Davidson had very good games.

I thought he looked good, Rojo for Argentina in their first match as well in regards to LBs.

I was looking forward to seeing Serge Aurier play in his proper position (RB) for the Ivory Coast. He'd looked promising there the previous couple of seasons but for some inexplicable reason Casanova has been playing him as LCB for some of this season. Inexplicable as a) he's looked very good as an attacking rb but not so great as a CB & b) the alternative rb is Ninkov who is a useless twat. Casanova does do some strange things team selection wise though.

Sure enough he had a decent game at RB in the first game against Japan, putting in the cross for both goals. He's a bit more about power and pace than finesse and does have the odd blunder in him(especially as a CB) - a little bit in the Walker mould - so not sure if I'd want him at Spurs but will be interesting to see where he ends up and whether he progresses.
