Oh I think it will be quite handy and has been so far but I'm not sure they were the driving force behind Maddison so much.
I'm sure they played a part but it was said that his wife wanted to come down south and as we've seen many times before, the Mrs usually has a big say in these things.
Yeh I agree it wasn’t just them, but the difference is that if there’s an interest in the player then we’ve got a lot more chance of landing them if their Base clients, partly as we seem to get good value from Base and so there seems to be less posturing and brinkmanship than with other agents.

I can’t see Eze staying at Palace, he’s at that point in his career where he can step up to a top club, he’d be nuts to stay in middle table mediocrity with Palace whilst also foregoing any likely chance of getting into the England setup.

He might hold out until the summer, but if there’s contract talks happening now I think that’s likely being used as part of negotiations in clubs that are interested in him (I.e. Palace are giving me a big new contract so you’re going to have to do better than that). It could be that he has his eye on the Euros and for that he needs to move club. Even without the Base connections moving to another London club, one that isn’t considered a rival and one that is playing some amazing football under a progressive manager and sitting top / near top of the table has to be an attractive prospect. You add Base into the equation and I think it’s quite likely he’s considering a move to Spurs either in Jan or the summer.

We’re going to get shafted in paying for another centre back. Think we’ve really got to push hard for Kelly.

Not only will we need a CB in January - we NEED to get the CB in the squad on Jan 1, to give him as much time to get acclimated to the squad and tactics.

Ange needs to be backed in Jan. There is complete buy-in for Ange's style of football, so we need to push the boat out for him.

Another quality RCB is needed we cannot leave ourselves in this position. I’d go as far to say that we need two CBs. Kelly and a top quality RCB.

Might be difficult for jan but should try for Braithwaite. Everton need to bring money in. Tosin maybe. Not sure about Kelly, maybe lacking a bit of presence for a centre back. Challobah would be a good buy but who knows if Chelsea would sell to us.

In a way (every cloud etc) last nights disaster may help us get everything sorted quickly (optimistic ofc)

it’s so clear that we need reinforcements, and soon.
but it’s also clear that the feel good factor around the club is a great reason to back the manager and the recently hired recruitment team

fingers crossed

As an aside, does anyone here (@Now it's Spursonal ?) know how Nuamah is doing because he was another who fits the bill idealistically as a wide forward who would be tailor made for our system and was heavily linked.

Know Lyon have been crap this year but interested to hear how he's faring and isn't he actually a Molenbeek player and only on loan for Lyon? Could this be revisited I wonder - especially with our new Aston Villa contingent.
Yeah as you said, Lyon are seriously struggling this year. Dead last with 0 wins and 6 losses after 10 games. So it was definitely very far from an ideal environment to transfer in to😅

His gametime has been limited too as Fabio Grosso, the Lyon manager, has primarily been setting up without wingers.

In spite of all this, I still think he'd be an ideal signing for us as in this limited gametime he's still shown the flashes of what would make him an ideal Ange winger. Blistering pace, top 1v1 ability and brilliant ball-striking. Also as a sidenote, to me he also looks like he's starting to pack on a bit more muscle since joining Lyon. Starting to fill out into a similar build to Gnonto, which would obviously help with the physicality of the prem.

One thing I will say against him though is that he is still lacking a lot of game intelligence which is a factor that's importance I definitely underestimated in Ange's wingers. I've now seen how crucial it is for Ange's wingers to be locked in when it comes to following the patterns of play and particularly the constant rotations required of the full-backs, number 8's and wingers.

Perfect example of this was the difference between Richarlison and Johnson against Palace. The second goal in that game assisted by Brennan Johnson was probably the first goal we've scored that completely followed the design of what Ange wants our attacking play to look like. And that was due to the intelligence of Johnson and Maddison in following Ange's rotations to a tee.

Jota had similar intelligence at Celtic, and despite the question marks about signing Brennan Johnson at the time, it makes a lot more sense to me now.

Based off this, my new top realistic targets at winger would be the likes of Takefusa Kubo, Armaund Lauriente or Bryan Zaragoza who was completely off my radar before.
Roony Bardghji then would be a great project, but my absolute dream signing would be Olise.

Think the club let Ange down a bit not getting a back up CB.

they need to fix Jan 1st unless Philips or Dorrington show they are ready for elite level.

I don’t have much left as it is, but I’ll genuinely lose all faith in our board and owners if Ange isn’t backed to the fullest in January and to a larger extent next summer.

A backup CB (Kelly), A wide forward (Jota) and CM cover is the bare minimum I’ll accept. If we move on PEH and Richy as has been rumoured we may need more cover in CM and up top, depending on how well Veliz has bedded in by then.

Anything less than this is pure negligence and I’m not getting my hopes up. I know it’s been done to death but it’s hard to have faith in a board that has ALWAYS left the manager short in times like this.

Tottenham target new defender in January after Micky van de Ven injury

Interest in Bournemouth's Lloyd Kelly will be reignited while Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi is a long-time target

Dan Kilpatrick
Tottenham will target a new left-sided centre-half in January as they await to discover the extent of Micky van de Ven's injury.
Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly, who Spurs targeted in the summer, is expected to be the subject of fresh interest.
Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou has called for the club to do their January business early and signing a new defender has taken on more urgency after Van de Ven pulled up with a serious-looking hamstring injury in Monday's 4-1 defeat to Chelsea.
The Dutchman is set for a scan once the swelling has subsided before the club decides on a course of recovery.

Spurs will also be without van de Ven's centre-half partner Cristian Romero for the next three games after he was shown a straight red card for violent conduct, leaving Eric Dier and 18-year-old Ashley Phillips as the only natural centre-backs available to Postecoglou.
Kelly was a Spurs target in the summer and Bournemouth are braced for a fresh approach for the 25-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season and should be available for a cut-price fee.
The left-footed former England Under-21 international can also cover at left-back, would count towards the club's homegrown quota, and likely accept being a squad player.
Spurs coach Matt Wells, who looks after the first team's defensive unit for Postecoglou, worked with Kelly at Bournemouth when assistant to Scott Parker, and is understood to be an admirer.
Dier, who impressed from the bench against Chelsea and is set for his first start under Postecoglou at Wolves on Saturday, is out of contract at the end of the season, and Spurs would prefer to receive a fee for the England centre-half in January.
But the chances of Dier leaving the club mid-season hinge on the severity of Van de Ven's injury as well as the prospect of Spurs also signing a right-sided centre-half in January.
Spurs are long-term admirers of Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi, although the Eagles are unlikely to sanction a sale mid-season.
New Spurs technical director Johan Lange and chief scout Rob Maczenkie will work with Postecoglou on recruitment in January, although the Australian has made clear that he will have the final say on all new signings.

Makes sense, Kelly is probably most likely. If we got him, I would hope we would target another quality CB in the summer if we make CL.

Lloyd Kelly seems an obvious transfer, cover two positions like Ben Davies.
Younger faster.

Sebastián Cáceres links seem strong as well. With claims that we have an official bid in from a Mexican based transfer "journalist/specialist" with 55k X followers. Bet he'd love to join up with Bentancur.
