A little squad comparison against our competition. To see the depth of the squads and what player of ours is comparable with the option in their squads.
Our issue is clearly not lack of numbers overall, though we are probably low at CB. More about the quality and style suitability for some positions.
It gives a little bit of an aha experience when you are used to be upset about Højbjerg and Lo Celso, then realize Elneny and Vieira are the similar options for Arsenal.

We need to keep going down the young player route we don’t have the money to spend on many big money signings plus Ange loves working with young players.

sign:

Lloyd Kelly
Federico Redondo
Valentin Barco
Marcos Leonardo
Antonio Nusa
Kang Seong-jin

and promote from youth

Think this will hinge on showing we can develop these kind of players then match their ambitions - Kelly and Kang excepting. Redondo, Barco and Nusa are being courted by Madrid and Barca, and others with huge pulling power. If we can get even 3 of them I’d be delighted. News about Gio wanting to fight for his place here, and the good feeling about the club could tip it for us. Just hope whoever is pulling the transfer strings will carry on the approach that has worked so well for us recently.

Although I completely agree with you Kelly is 25 early next month so not really young in this context. 😊

I only said Kelly for back up for couple seasons while we bring through Phillips & Dorring

i think Nusa is the most difficult one the others we could get I believe but need to move quick and apart from Nusa won’t cost a lot of money

All under 21 too. Would fill the gaps from Dier, Højbjerg, Davies, Lo Celso and Perisic. I’d like Gil and Sessegnon to have a chance but would be an amazing revitalisation of the squad.

I think City have already signed Barco, or very close to sign.

I hope Ange to sign 1 or 2 young Asian youngsters (from Japan/Korea) to keep our Asian market growing. Son is the perfect example to show that you need this type of player to generate more money. Someone like Kubo. If he is too expensive, there are always kids from U17, U18, U21..

No the last report said they were confident they can beat Brighton to sign him then a week later Boca Juniors wanted to sign him to a new contract. I’m sure if we move quickly and decisively we can get him.

Looking through contracts ending soon:
2024:
Martial - He's a talent but has injury problems. A really tricky, dribbling, goal scorer (can do although in a bad man u is partially to blame) could do very well under Ange
Thiago - Injury problems galore and he's 32 already but he is very, very talented

2025:
Bowen - Yes Bowen from West Ham's contract ends in <2 years. Maybe not the winter but should be trying to get him in the summer. He would be a really good buy and I wouldn't be surprised if Liverpool try to get him as a Salah replacement. 21/22 Bowen had 18G/13A (31 total) all comps for West Ham, that same season Kane had 35G+A (25G 10A) and Son had 32G+A (24G 8A). 22/23 he had 13G+8A compared to Son's 14G+6A, essentially it's another Son on the opposite wing. Whatever the case, even disregarding G/A WH fans rate him highly and if fans think that much of a player chances are they have quite a bit about them

Bowen is a good call. Don’t know how likely it is. We’ve had a long standing interest - since his Hull days I think.

I think today showed we need to continue improving the squad.

Without Son we looked light for options in the final 3rd. I didn't really see Skipp or Hojbjerg helping us get 3 points and we still need a 3rd quality centre back.

Eze is coming up to 18 months left on his contract.

Lloyd Kelly will have 6 months, but usually the player prefers to go on a free as he has more options and can claim a better salary if there's no transfer fee.

Bowen would be an excellent signing but I can't see West Ham selling him mid season, not sure they'd sell to us at all.

Mitouma is another coming up to 18 months left. Brighton never seem reluctant to sell.

Mitouma is the one I'd be going for.

One suggestion for January signing: Pedro Neto. I think he is absolutely brilliant, and just what we need.
Said the same and completely agree. He’s impressing so much especially in a team that, today aside, isn’t looking too hot. Contract runs until 27 which could be a problem but he should be near the top of our list of potential targets imo. I fully expect him to be looking to leave soon also.

I'd love a wide forward who can beat a defender and/or has some real pace.

I like Kulu, but god he frustrated me today with constant coming inside and passing 5 yards. it's so predictable.
