It’s not optimal but I like Dier in defence. He’s not as good as Toby but in reality we’d find it very difficult to replace his level of quality in the transfer market without paying £50m plus. We clearly can’t do that at the moment with other business needed so very happy for us to give Dier a proper opportunity in a position more suited to him. We will have Foyth there too along with Davies as cover who did well there in a couple of games last season.Yeah as much as signing this guy from under Arsenal nose would be hilarious, once that all dies down, if Toby leaves we will still end up with a weaker defence than last season.
And our defending last season wasn’t exactly rock solid.
We absolutely have to sign him.
Much like many others on here I've never seen him play, but if he turns out to be one of the best CB's in a generation that will be a huge stick to beat the Gooners with for years to come.
If he turns out not to be all that I'm sure we can recoup a fair amount of his fee by virtue of tee fact that he wont peak until he's 26/27.
Who's godziny temu? Can he play right-back?Googling player's name has never been more fun

It will give us a year to analyse Vertonghen’s condition too. If Saliba performs to a high standard then we may refrain from a new contract offer. If this is all true then I'd want him right away but to be honest if he is the future of our defence then loaning him back as an 18 year old is satisfactory, particularly if we slap a two year extension option instead of a one year which I think is eminently fair.
I’m fairly happy. I think a lot of defence issues were to do with structural issues in the team. Individual errors from Trippier and Lloris occasionally didn’t help. I don’t think it was a Pochettino team playing to its true capabilities because of the shackles placed on him in the transfer market.Yeah I prefer Dier in defence too. I realise we can’t get anyone in on Toby’s level, but I’d prefer a bit of a more experienced player to come in.
If Verts was injured I just don’t feel particularly confident in any of our combinations of remaining CB’s playing together at this stage.
I can see Dier at centre back especially if we improve centre midfield with Lo Celso and Ceballos/Eriksen. People are too quick to judge Dier at centre back considering he hasn't really had a run of games there. He needs a run there to establish a good understanding. It’s not optimal but I like Dier in defence. I don't get this take of 'why would Spurs pay €30m to loan a player back'.
We are not going to pay all of that up front, and this would be a long term signing. Another year starting at SE will probably be best for his development. In my opinion its smart business as we have two CBS coming to the end of their career. Had this player moved to Lyon this summer he'd probably be £50m+ after a year!
It's something that I think will be more and more common going forward as the stepping stone route is becoming too expensive for the top clubs. Look at the pricing on Maguire or Zaha.

Think we making a move cos we had to give Andersen to Lyon in return for Tanguy.I wonder if we’re making a move for this guy because poch believes he can move Foyth to right back...
A while back now but in 14/15 Dier and Vertonghen formed a really good partnership. It lead to a lot including myself questioning why we were bringing Toby in.I can't see us spend 30m on him and lose Toby for free next summer. I think we sign this guy for a bigger fee but no loan back and sell Toby.

Whenever he's played there he's genuinely looked good apart from one shaky spell there two or three years ago when he was played on the left side for a few games in Vertonghen's absence. When at RCB I think he's done really well.
I think his lack of mobility is far less exposed at CB and he can make better use of his diagonal ping to help us retain what Toby offered us in that regard.
Yeah but I posted it first
Tbf i think swiss ramble posted it first.
Why are you fannies so desperate to link this back to "Herc"'s ITK? (I've put it in quote marks because it's fucking nauseating that fully grown men have bestowed this playful moniker upon him).
