"If Ramos plays the same brand of football as he did in Spain, undoubtedly he will take Tottenham up to the level required to earn a Champions League berth”

Ramos’s Sevilla side won the hearts of neutral Spanish fans last season, their attacking and scintillating brand of football winning them plaudits and matches in equal measure. Injuries and fatigue put paid to their title hopes - had they won their final two matches instead of earning just one point, they would have triumphed in La Liga - but their efforts were highly commendable after extended runs in European and domestic cup competitions, both of which they eventually won.

Found this quote and it got me wondering. It's been almost a year now since his arrival and I don't think we've seen anything like what we were promised. I do think we should give him time, at least until the end of this season, but what spurs have produced so far this season has been dreadful. I've had to endure another day of micky taking and i'm sure it's the same for most of you. And what makes it worse is the same excuses coming out of the club each week. The question i'm asking is will we ever see this fantasy brand of football that we were led to believe comes hand in hand with Ramos?

As I've said many times, including when he joined, Sevilla was his only success. Everywhere else, about eight to ten clubs in fact before he joined Sevilla, he only lasted about a season and won nothing. Consquently when he joined I wasn't hugely excited because in the back of my mind I was deeply worried that we were going to be a pre-Sevilla team. I hate to say it, but a couple more losses and he could be on the way out and we would fit in quite nicely with that legacy.

I do remember looking at his record and thinking the same. I choose not to think to much about it and let myself be caught up in the hype. I really do hope your not proved right.

I've quietly had this at the back of my mind since he joined too. His record before Seville was crap. I would've been more positive about it if he had achieved success at Seville over a number of seasons, not just two seasons.

His managerial record here isn't good reading by any means before mid-2005: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juande_Ramos

We do need to give him the season though. I pray he can give us some of the success he had at Seville, I really do. Would be amazing to have us playing like the Seville team did for those two seasons. If things are really bad by after Christmas, if his position is untenable and we're in serious danger of being relegated (IF) then maybe we could bring in Venables for the duration of the season, to give us a kick up the arse.

It is still early days though. This is just some thoughts on a "what if" scenario.
