Given how much short-termism has plagued the team in recent years, it’s perhaps surprising that Tottenham haven’t done anything too terribly stupid in January

Centre mid vital, and a striker, but both would have to be much better than we already have, we certainly don't need more squad players. Ideal world shniedalin and bony. But that's 45 mill plus

Agree, no more squad players.
We need some game changers.

Everywhere except in goal; the FBs, CDs, at least another playmaker, a wide midfielder and a striker.

We won't get them all, but a couple would be nice.

Dear Daniel,
Pleeeeeease sign Schneiderlin. Awesome stats, seems like a great character, and Poch knows him inside out, therefore he should very much hit the ground running.
If we only made one signing in Jan this would be the one that MIGHT get us CL qualification.
Poch needs backing with quality , rather than average squad players.

We need a top class player to sit in front of the CB's more then anything else, Jan is not a good time to pick up top class players though.

Honestly speaking, we can't really expect to shift a number of players this January so we shouldn't expect many to come in either. For the time being, a LW/ ST should be our priority. Someone needs to take the burden off/ offer competition to Kane (and Eriksen) who seem to be our only consistent attacking threat. IMO we should save the search for a proper CM in the summer when we can better move our fringe players and make space in the squad.

Yea great character. Rather convenient how he got himself suspended for the arsenal match too.

I think if we are prepared to let townsend go in the opposite direction then MS is a distinct possibility in January.

other than that we might consider strengthening in the chairman department :)

Spurs need to sell the likes of Paulinho and the likes before we think about buying first.

So as usual, someone posts an article, but no one discusses the article. Instead, everyone publishes a personal wish-list of players they want, based on 'opinion', unsupported by evidence or argument.

It's a surprisingly sensible article. Not sure about Berahino as a suitable striker - he's a player who impressed me when I first saw him, but looks less adaptable every time I see him and doesn't really fit our tactics. And he really needs a strike partner.

Other than that, it's a sensible and realistic look at what can (and cannot) be achieved in January.

At CM, we are hurting for quality. We have too many numbers but not enough quality. So if we can sell Capoe and Paulinho and buy a quality CM, it would be ideal. Problem is, we need creaitivity forward but also someone to shield the back 4 and win the ball back.

We also REALLY need a striker. BADLY. Really, we need 2 but that wont happen in January. We need 1 in with Ade out. Then in the summer get another in with Bobby out.

We can worry about a winger and a center half inthe summer as we have options either currently on loan, arriving or already at the club. But would still like to ship out Kaboul, Lennon and Naughton this month to even use these options.

Everyone keeps repeating that "we don't need more squad players" but I'm honestly not sure that's true. Squad players need to be able to step in and do a job for a month or two if one of your starters gets and injury or a loss of form. Do we really have that many players who we would be comfortable doing that? Imagine having to play April and May with past-it-Kaboul or heart-attack-Chiriches at CB, out-of-depth-Paulinho or can't-be-arsed-Capoue at CM, England's-brave-Andros Townsend on the wing, or no-goal-Soldado and bad-juju-Adebayor at ST. We'd be fucked. I don't think I can point to a single starting position and confidently say that if we had to replace that player for an extended period of time we would be fine.

Personally I think we need a few smart signings, but none of them need to be 35m wonder kids. If your club is in a position where you must sign a player that expensive to compete then I'm afraid you're already screwed, better off rebuilding for next season. What we need is three players, IMO CB, CM, and LW/ST, who fit the system and will be solid squad options while making a serious push for the starting XI. Something like Moreno, Rabiot, and Mitrovic would go a long way to strengthening our spine for the next 6 months, and making sure that we have competition at every position to keep all our players focused and motivated.

We need to find a striker to compliment Kane. If he gets injured we will be well and truly buggered. Berahino would be my choice based on price and likely availability. He has pace (missing from our front line) and offers Poch something different from anyone we currently have.

As Matzdorf said above, sensible article tho' I'm not sure the author really knows his stuff (no mention of stambouli, rabiot and berahino well flagged already). In my opinion this might actually be quite a good window for moving on some of our competent but lesser lights. There are about 8 PL clubs who will be desperate to sign (at least loan) players, although the likes of Paulinho will presumably only go abroad. We desperately need more pace, more creativity and better defence / defensive shielding. The problem is that the raw pace we have - Lennon, Townsend - gets such little game time anyway. I'm still not sure what Poch's famous "system" is? Schneiderlin would seem to be the key signing for us. I wouldn't be surprised if levy-Baldini don't pull off a big name loan signing from abroad this January to try to secure CL without massive cash outlay.

Has anybody watched the England U21's and seen how the Kane/Berahino combination worked? I don't want to just base my opinion on the goals they have got at that level.
I also need to know if Berahino is worth his place in the team if he is not scoring, we don't want another Defoe?! (Kane is, due to his all round contribution)
