For too long the 'wild ' men/fans of football, the thug element, have dominated our screens, day in day out? It has abated, thank God, in England BUT it is still 'current' up in Scotland. The recent debacle of Heart V Celtic (Lennon assaulted) has brought the problem home to the general public. What happened was, in all truth, a scandal, not to point the finger at Hearts....but, in this case it must focus on their security arrangements?
In the circumstances, would it not be wiser to push home the advantage and deduct 10 points (Europa League disaster for Hearts) to any club found negligent of any, FAN based, attrocities? What greater 'punishment' could be dealt out to the SCUM BAG that ran out and assaulted Lennon than to 'have his name' immortalised as the FOOL who lost Europa League Qualification, and the millions that it may bering? It would, withour doubt, deter any similar foolishness....and make it CLEAR That the SPL (FA, down South) are, finally, going to 'grow a pair' and deal with the major problem? That said....I would doubt that the SPL have the wherewithall to r=tackle the problem with any urgency (would it be different where Walter Smith to be targetted in the same way?). Whatever happens, the problem will not go away....and as long as the chosen few are successful....it will rattle no cages? COYS!:violin:

It was just one bloke, wasn't it? :) He's an idiot. He should be banned for life. I wouldn't punish Hearts though but I would suggest more protection for Lennon.

Now, look, you can't say that. Fine, think it. We're all thinking it, but don't put it out there... oh, you mean the Hearts fan. Oh, yeah, quite right.

The concept of clubs being penalised for fan behaviour never sat well with me. A club doesn't choose it's fans and, to my mind, isn't resposibly for their behaviour. Beyond banning someone from a ground, surely it is a matter for the police?

There have been at least two incidents of fans hitting players recently in England, the Bury goalkeeper and up the road from here in Stevenage the cup
match saw a player struck during the Newcastle match I think.

I think there was an incident at a certain North London club when somebody tried to punch Lampard so i don't think that a 10 point deduction is a very good idea.
However, if the Hearts chap had some connection to sectarian strife then I'd hope serious criminal action be taken against him and not the club unless there's a proven link.

I know he is a Catholic and it is sectarian. But not sure which side the hate is coming from.

Seems everybody on both sides of the intolerence divide are united in their hatred of lennon.
The Republicans because he played for Northern ireland, the extreme Protestants because he's a catholic and me because he's a ginger.

I would argue that a club most definately is responsible for the behaviour of their fans in their stadium.

Did you not even bother to read the words immediately after the bit you bolded that said "Beyond banning someone from a ground"?

yep did indeed, but I believe they should also be held accountable for things like this if they're not properly prepared to stop it

one drunk twat shouldn't of been able to jump the billboard run up to a manager and smack him before being apprehended

a points deduction would be harsh though, maybe one home game with only away support allowed in, the twat would have no friends left and Hearts would learn their lesson and tighten up security
