That was a shadow of the team and performances I expect to see when all our signings bed in. I'm not reading too much into that defeat, can't remember us playing so slow before.

Anyway, this is getting off topic again.

I`m expecting to see Holtby play a lot more often in midfield, especially at home..

Or just say Ledley was being a c--t! Which he was. Didn't see the jestiness myself, irony maybe.

According to the bouncer, who was incredibly eager to mouth off to the nearest tabloid hack but declined to say anything to the police... I know who I'm going to believe.

But anyway, not really on topic.

Exactly. Once our lads become familiar with each others games and exactly what AVB wants, we should be flying. Arsenal were well organised and played that game as a total unit. That side of it was impressive and they were totally organised and knew exactly what they were doing which is no surprise. We were tentative because we didn't have that familiarity or cohesion and we kind of froze tbh. Only way to describe it.

When we're in full flow we'll be scary.

This season we need kaboul to stay fit or Chiri to come in blazing and...stay fit.

With our FBs we need super solid CBs this season.

Yup, that's the advantage of not spending in a window though, they were ready and raring to go from the off (despite the 3-1 loss to Villa). It wont be hard for them to integrate only one player too in Özil, and they're get off to a great start no doubt, but when we get to christmas time and latter stages of the year it'll be to our advantage that we have such a big competitive squad

To get back on topic...two scum mates of mine (childhood friends, what ya gonna do...), even though they won, weren't too elated and seemed to know that something had changed with us and seemed very apprehensive and muted even though they won.

The bravado from gooners, generally, will get worse and worse I think, as they know they are in proper danger of not making it this season so they'll cover it up with guff.

Wenger seems to think that the whole team defending will make up for their defensive deficiencies and wants to build heavy on the attack side...that's a mistake.

Will be interesting to see how injuries affect them over the season.

In my experience of bouncers, and I've had more than I care to say, the guy probably deserved it. You'd be alarmed to know what proportion of bouncers are convicts, and further alarmed to know how many of those convictions are for assault. The amount of laws they tend to break on average in any evening working (from the door policies which contravene the first section of the sexual discrimination act to the excessive force they use to 'escort' people out of the club, not to mention the lies which tend to follow) is appalling.

Basically, I'm fairly comfortable in generalising. They're not all ****s, but a strong majority seem to be, and poorly behaved though Ledley was, I imagine there's a very strong possibility that the bouncer wasn't innocent in the situation.

Yes, it could be a good time play us. Hard to know for sure though.

If Eriksen and Lamela both start they'll be desperate to do well on their home debuts. We bossed the Arsenal midfield for large periods of the game on Sunday, I'm sure we'll do likewise with Norwich so it comes down to our ability to create enough and then finish off what we produce. I'm convinced we will with Soldado, we just need to present him with proper chances.

In other words if Lamela and Eriksen start and play well, we could be handing out our first arse wiping for quite sometime.

So hard to know for sure, and whilst I can see why they might be slightly optimistic, if I were them I would also be worried if we clicked - because when we do we are going to give someone a serious hiding.

Kicking arse is one thing.....but wiping arse? I'm not sure the players will be filled with much fighting spirit when they hear Michael Dawson give his pre-match team talk saying "Let's wipe some ass!"

Arsenal showed exactly how to beat us... men behind the ball and attack at pace.
Whether Norwich can play like that? Doubtful, so they might need a different game plan, but i would expect them upon surrendering possession to shut up shop at the back and we could be in for a frustrating afternoon.

Not many teams attack like Ars*nal. Whatever we may think of them, they are the best team in the league at opening up defences at pace.
Norwich seem to have bought well this summer, and have spent a lot on upgrading their attack, but I think we'll boss the midfield, and, as usual, it's just a question of whether we have the creativity to open them up.

some stuff to tide you over from our Liverpool friends

"The silly lengths I am going to isn't defending "British Talent".

Its saying Spurs are dog muck and we'll finish above them, comfortably."

"Well last season...

Spurs: 72 points
Liverpool: 61 points

Do you really see them getting less points than last season? They'll be a bit higher IMO. Probably around 75, and personally I'll be happy if we get 65+."

"Take away bale 23/25 points."

"One thing is for certain this season: Tottenham will win less points than last season."

"Can't stop laughing at the news that Levy tried to get Real Madrid to pull the plug last minute on Arsenal's move to get Ozil. Spuds - small time as always!"

"small time indeed...i give Lamela two seasons before someone with ch.l football knocks on their door"

"Spurs have improved the 25 man squad, and their first Xl has regressed.

Simple as that.

Bale whatever way you look at it, was a huge loss. Currently one of the top 10 player sin the world.

I don't see any real improvement elsewhere in the first Xl. All very similar additions.

Sandro Dembele and Holty. Would have been a good 3 this year. How much better is, Paulinho Capoue Eriksen? Not much if at all. They can only field 11 players at once.

Soldado? what does he offer, or do that Defoe wouldn't have? not a lot.

Lamela? Bale all day every day.

Chadli? Lennon?

The first Xl is weaker due to losing Bale. The squad is stronger. "

OZIL OZIL OIZL OOOOOOOOZIL!! etc etc etc

"You know what brings Spurs down?

They have developed a very strong inferiority complex, it is ingrained in them through years and years of constantly comparing themselves to Arsenal in every single way.

This transfer window was the prime example, Levy tried his hardest to block a move from us for any Real Madrid players by delaying the Bale deal so that we could not play with Özil/Di Maria in the NLD. It backfired on him, we won the game anyway and then announced the a world class player, we were in the spotlight of world football and still are everyone will want to watch how Özil-Cazorla-Wilshere light it up together.

They have done good things in the transfer window but there is a reason no big club picked up Eriksen for example. Soldado for 30m, yet he is useless outside the box, and Capoue runs for days but lacks any passing ability, he had more misplaced passes than any midfielder in Ligue 1 last season I believe. Some of his passing without pressure in the NLD was awful.

They should be more humble, all this talk of challenging for the title and worrying about us is not good for them. AVB needs to develop a starting XI and build an understanding with the team, and a clear style.

What is the point of signing a guy like Holtby? Surely if you have such a solid physical midfield base of Capoue and Paulinho you can afford to throw him at AM. They had no link to the forward line. Is he not good enough?

There's another one, there's a reason no big clubs went for Holtby on a free."

"Glory-glory makes for a glorious read at the moment, they think they have three players on Özil's level with Eriksen, Lamela and Soldado.

icon_lol.gif
Seriously? what the point comparing Soldado with Özil they playing in not same position, and Eriksen Lamela are good players but come on now they are not Özil level."

"ALL I CAN SAY IS.... HAPPY ST TOTTERINGHAM'S EVE!"

" We bought Özil, spuds lost Bale. Good window"

"Love to see how Eriksen goes , couple of years ago he was talking about how he would only go to Barca or Madrid ,didn't want to play in the premier league stock has fallen since then ."

Amazing: Neither Liverpool nor Goops fans seem to have understood, yet, that it is now, in fact, a squad game (and it was the appreciation of this fact that allowed Beetroot Head to dominate for so long) and we have massively strengthened our squad while theirs are pretty weak.
I mean, what type of cretin thinks "Sandro Dembele and Holty. Would have been a good 3 this year. How much better is, Paulinho Capoue Eriksen? Not much if at all. They can only field 11 players at once." :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

As for the Goons, they really are shooting their bolt purely over the fact that they made one half decent signing...LATE. In effect, they have been Levyed by RM: they overpaid (IMHO) for an exceptional player they didn't really need, as in an area of the pitch they were already strong, at the expense of the 3 or 4 really good players in the areas of the pitch they really needed to improve/add strength in depth. And he so clearly didn't want to be there, he so clearly wanted to stay at RM. But the Whinger bought him late...so that clearly wasn't aimed at placating the fans over actually doing what needed to be done to systematically strengthen the squad based on a clear plan. Yeah, er, be happy Goons fans (y)

Try to think of it this way: we got one Ericksen and one Lamela for the price of an Ozil, and had Paulino, Soldado, Capoue (who the Goons really could have done with), Chiriches and Chadlis thrown in as our bonus buy

Its ignorance beyond belief. For a start, the massive advantage we have over Liverpool in particular is squad depth, especially in midfield.

We look very difficult to beat, yet they're judging us before our creative talents have hardly kicked a ball between them.

I have no problem in admitting that Liverpool have improved, they look good in an attacking sense and have brought in players in the hope to improve defensively. I expect them to push us harder this year, no doubt about it.

But overall I still think we have a better side from front to back because of our strength in midfield - assuming our creative talents come in and do reasonably well, and overall I think our squad has more strength in depth.

If we struggle and the new recruits need most of the season to adjust, then Liverpool could well finish above us. But we are nowhere near in a position to make that judgement yet.

My money is definitely on us though.

I'd have to agree with Pinky on this. We had Dawson playing, who isn't really suited to the high line - stick Kaboul, who is much pacier, into that team and we will air better. We were also missing the players we would look to for creativity, on the whole - the ones who would link midfield were we had a lot of dominance, and the attack, were, in this particular match, Soldado was totally isolated.
Even then, we had as many chances on and off target as the Goons, and twice as many blocked shots. Our team will be significantly different and quite soon.
AVB is setting us up to be solid and hard to beat, first, with creativity to be added, IMHO. So far we have won four games out of five and conceded one goal in five competitive games. I believe the only team that will truly be getting a good time to play us was the Goons.

Im afraid bar the second half we bossed nothing. We had periods of good possession, but we moved the ball far too slowly and Hugo saved us at least twice from clear goals. We on the other hand did not have any clear chances to score all be it with some half chances.

We had good spells and had them right under the cosh towards the latter half of the whole second half. But frankly i never saw us scoring and that needs adressing as i feel many teams will park the bus.

Now yes, we have players coming in and i like what i saw in terms of player ability, but team understanding is obviously but sorely lacking. I think we have quality players, but i would not want to be having to play chelsea or liverpool right now... Thankfully we arent and by the time we do i am hopeful,we will have started to see our truer team.

Though it hurts but i agree with the bleeding style arsenal play and lucky for us only one team play like that in the league, the closest to them will be swansea and liverpool.

Other than that we are building a powerful core in our middle supplemented with flair up top which will over power lots of teams in the league.

I speak for myself; i was more disappointed with the NLD loss becuase i was expecting us to bully them which i believe most fans were expecting but you have to give them credit for their game plan.

Has all the 'wenger out' and 'in wenger we rust' business stopped then? Seems like it to me which is funny because Wenger has pulled the wool right over their eyes. How does signing one player for an area of the team that didn't need improving help their squad depth issues? Can't wait for this season to properly get under way.
