Very much agreed. The need to be pressed and powered out. Many teams we come up against allow us to play in our 1st & the middle third of the pitch, then crowd out their 3rd. The tempo needs to be high and aggressive. Bale helped a lot with that. I'm keen to see if our new attackers can do that, or alternatively if they are that astute creatively that we can play about with the ball, against a defensive minded team, and carve out openings. Looking forward to watching more games (bloody national fixtures!)
Eriksen will be a good engine for that and Lamela will feed off of it. Townsend already plays high tempo and holtby is busy. Just need the beasts behind them to keep it moving and we have to build quickly from the back and not be laboured.

Our thinking was so slow on Sunday, it really surprised me, didn't expect it. there was no way we could have won that game with the speed we played at. Lloris made our loss look 'respectable' tbh.

Mr Pink I hope so, & suspect he will be that for the team. I've got holtby down as his backup/alternative for that role - slightly different to Eriksen no doubt, but tenacious and creative (albeit not to the same extent), direct and pretty high tempo.

ThinkTank - we have the formation, and now the players that need to settle. Ultimately, the thing that needs to click is the mentality to play in this way we're speaking about. It comes from the back. Lloris is fantastic, but the one thing Gomey had on him was his fast distribution. Daws likes a long ball but is laboured/slow in his direct play. Jan somewhat too. Kaboul a little better in that respect. Vlad (???). Walker will often go direct then stop and pass back again (has to happen sometimes of course), but when he bombs on he gives that tempo to us. A little early to assess rose in this respect. Our rear-guard midfield wouldn't have to drop so deep to almost take the ball off their feet if urgency and directness was enhanced from the back.

Was watching some old Ledley vids on Youtube and some of the comments from other fans are actually very classy:

even as an arsenal fan..i have to respect this guy's commitment, passion & dedication to both football &spurs....seriously a legend and a true gentleman of the game...and as u spurs fans sing even on one knee he's better than john terry..:))"

I support Arsenal, but Ledley King is a true gentleman. Seems like a perfectly nice lad. Loyal servant to Spurs, it's rare with footballers these days. Best of luck to Ledley."

One of the best English defender that never was.. Even as an Arsenal fan I have massive respect for this guy.. If he was injury free his whole career he would be considered amongst the best"

true gent... clean player.... often hurt but never hurt no one... Best defender in english football. Even not 100% fit. United fan here. Respect Mr King"

Arsenal fan and i completely admire Ledley King not only because he was a quality CB but because of his determination to carry on despite his injury"

Sad that I won't be seeing Ledley King lead Tottenham out at St James' Park for the opening game of the season
He has always been a remarkable professional on the pitch and always been a outstanding performer in defense
In my opinion he has been one of the best defenders in Premiership history
Farewell Ledley
You have been a credit to Tottenham
And a credit to the game"

This guy is just a model professional, looks to be one of the last of his kind. Although I'm a Gunner through and through, I have so much respect for Ledley King."

I'm a Chelsea fan and I love Terry, and this guy is insane. To play without training and all his knee problems, he's one of the best I've ever seen. Respect from a Chelsea fan."

Very nice to see that class is recognised independent of team loyalty.

Ledley was class and I'm glad other fans give him credit for what he was and what he could have been without the injuries.

All hail the King.

I miss Ledley :(

Nice comments there. What a Legend he is.
Me too. I think it's fair to say that if he had been injury-free he would rightly be regarded as one of the best central defenders ever to play the game.

Completely agree and would have looked just as good playing for Barca, Real Madrid etc. Someone of his class would grace any football team.

sadly, if he was injury free he probably would have done to as he played in some pretty piss poor spurs sides earlier in his career

Love the king. Best defender I've ever seen, even with a dodgy knee. He definitely would have played for one of the worlds top teams if he was injury free, and I think he would have left spurs in the manner of a true gentleman and legend if he did move.

Ledders had his moments.............

Usually 90 of them in the course of a game.

The best CB I have EVER seen, even Terry Henry said he was the best he ever played, probably because he spent all that time snug and warm in his pocket!

This is where Eriksen comes in. Crucial he'll be. He doesn't hold on to the ball, he releases it quickly if the pass is on. This is what we are crying out for. Its often quick first time balls that open up defences. A quick mind with good vision and great technique is what this guys brings to the table.

That in itself will speed up our play. Our off the ball movement has to be better to but its like a chicken and egg scenario. If we get use to Eriksen, for example, playing first time balls...the rest of them will offer better off the ball movement for him.

I really do think he'll transform our play, he'll be the hub in the final third for us.

Mr Pink...Yoda he is :giggle:

What else have they got to talk about?

Am I alone in the awful, selfish and inhuman thought that I hope he get's injured playing for Germany?

Obviously I wish him no harm and by all accounts he's a lovely bloke, but maybe just a muscle strain that keeps him out until Christmas?
