Re: Player/Young Player of the Year Award
« Reply #157 on: Yesterday at 10:25:09 PM »
The second Giggs was nominated it was clear this 'award' has nothing to do with being the best player. When he won it, it was just confirmed.

Bales had a good season, yet there's a fair chance he'll play in a side with no trophies and failing to complete their minimum goal of CL football. Which is the one argument given for not having Suarez win it..... It's crass, it's a joke, it's agenda driven nonsense. The sad thing is, in twenty years people will look back and actually think Gareth Bale was THE outstanding player in the Premier League at this time. Which I'm sure we can all agree is patently untrue

Why do the bin dippers care so much about POTY? I couldn't care less if Bale won it or not. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he did but it's not like he has won it for THFC, it's an individual award. I like cheering on individuals but at the end of the day we are all on this forum because we love the shirt and kiss the chicken badge. COYS

Feel exactly the same way about it, great achievement and chuffed for Gareth but couldnt have cared less if say RVP or Suarez etc got it, and yes Pool fans are a bunch of knobs! They probably view it as a trophy, and by not being awarded to their player then they see it as another act of victimisation towards themselves and Suarez - 'why always them' mentality. No doubt protests, boycotts and banners of support of their love of Suarez are being planned and prepared as we speak.

I don't by into the whole 'don't care, it's not a club trophy' mentality. It's so rare that we, in this day and age, get to support a play with whom we develop an affinity as well that when it does happen, by virtue of having an affinity with that play we should rejoice in his personal achievements the way we would with a friend or family member. King marking out Henry without breaking a sweat for England at the beginning of Euro 2004, Lennon and Carrick performing brilliantly at World Cup 2006, Defoe finally scoring for England against Poland, Ginola winning double player of the year, even a Simon Davies goal in a win over Italy many moons ago, and much more, if there's a player at Spurs who I have a genuine liking for and feel a connection with, then it's natural that I take pride in their success both individually and, of course, for the club. I'm delighted for Bale, he deserves it, and it can't be taken away from us that he did it while a Spurs player.

Totally agree mate. I just heard that apparantly Suarez was boo'd at the awards last night, probably "panto booing" but hilarious nonetheless. I hope he fucks off to Germany or somewhere.

TBF to some of the Liverpool fans. The 3 that are mates of mine (none of them actual scouse, naturally) have been objective and 2 of them would like to see him gone if they can get £45m £50m. To quote one of my LFC mates

"I'm just fucking fed up of teams, especially the fucking manc scum, Laughing at us, not only in footballing terms but also with regards to sportsmanship"

My natural response of course is to:ROFLMAO:

I think a lot of Scouse would be more open to him going after Saturday. As poor as Newcastle were, Liverpool were ruthless and very direct - more direct than they are with Suarez on the pitch.

That said it was Newcastle and a Newcastle who are playing like relegation certainties. Having their end of season blip, luckily for us we got them first game of the season huh??
