And to be fair that season was an outlier for Defoe as well, his next best was 13. Richarlison obviously isn’t the all round player Berba was, and probably not Keane either. But he’s a better player than Defoe (who did very little outside score, and as above didn’t do that very often) who is remembered a lot more fondly
Defoe was a cracking player, who pulled defenders all over the place and was a very real goal threat any time he got the ball in the opponents half. I defend Richarlison a lot but not sure how anyone who has watched a lot of both players could conclude definitively that Richarlison is/was the better player. Defoe scored goals Richarlison and many other No. 9s only dream of.

Same. I think Johnson has been really good. His finishing hasn’t been great but I think he’s otherwise been very dangerous and his pace is a real asset for us.
I just can't see either tbh, feels very lightweight both offensively and in defence, and I heard about his pace but he doesn't seem to burn past players either.

I'd say he hasn't been bad, but not great eorher

Plenty of scope for improvement/progression at his age.

Defoe was also a very good hold-up player, which Richie, despite his size, is clearly not. JD proved that you didn't need to be a six-footer to hnadle the long ball, as long as it was played to his feet, not his chest. Instead of holding off his CB, with his back to goal, Defoe would simply turn 90 degrees and run fast to one of the touchlines and wait for the cavalry to arrive.

He also had no backlift on either foot and was a very sweet striker of the ball. There'd be none of this bollocks tippy-toeing around the edge of the box that we're seeing now. It would be shift and shoot, 10 times a half, with Defoe.

It’s an interesting one.

In my view Defoe’s biggest positive was he could create his own chances. His ability to shift and shoot was excellent. But he wasn’t strong on hold up play. Didn’t assist or work hard off the ball.

Richarlison relies much more on service to get goals. But he does work hard and use his physicality a bit.

It’s hard to compare the two.

it was highly annoying alongside being offside a lot.

Defoe was an incredibly frustrating player

Hmm...he's very young, only been here a few months and still integrating into the squad.

You judge too early. The main thing for me is he's looking better game by game and you can see his confidence growing.

This is one of the most wild takes I've ever heard on this forum (n)

By this logic, he’s also better than Haaland?

Not judging too early in the slightest, just stating what I've seen, I cannot see the pace there (which I was expecting) and he is lightweight (which can and should develop), not sure either of that can be countered unless I've been watching someone different.

As I said, not been great, but hasn't been bad, and if we hadn't had injuries he probably wouldn't have played as much.

One for the future, I'm really not sure either, I'll put him on the skipp pile at the moment

I contributed to the Defoe stuff so, if anyone wishes to continue that discussion:

And the Brennan Johnson stuff can go in his thread too: https://spurscommunity.co.uk/index.php?threads/player-watch-brennan-johnson.153691/
