Were the transfer deadline day bids a PR stunt?

I believe Levy tried to make a last minute signing, but I do not believe the amounts suggested.

My theory is Levy did his wait till the last minute thing and tried a couple of the hot list names for reasonable amounts - Rossi for 18m (the price he was valued at a few months prior) Aguero for 22 maybe, etc etc. The two or three he tried were probably rebuffed for any number of reasons, the fee offered, the lateness of the bid making it impossible to get replacements and the players themselves ?

I don't think it was a stunt per se, but I do not believe Levy was wandering around Europe with 35m in his pocket desperate to chuck at anyone who'd take it.

I think he probably tried to buy a couple of the desired wish list players at the last minute with not frugal but "reasonable price" offers, and they failed.

- We bid £30m-£35m in January for Rossi

- He's seemingly on his way to Juve for £25m-£30m

- Where are we?

Why don't you go listen to SSN or read some top quality journos in a red top, it seems to be where all this information is coming from. Only the Rossi bid is confirmed, no one knows when the bid was lodged or what the details are behind it.

It amazes me that everything some people believe comes from faceless, nameless ITK people or from a media that would write anything to fill column inches. Season after season people suck in garbage from the media, football forums etc, they then try and convince themselves its true, they spin the story to suit themselves in order to try and bring some meaning to the situation and then post another post which has absolutely no evidence to back it up.

Then when these "fairy tails" don't come true they use them to crucify thier own club? Seriously catch a grip of yourselves, why do this? The majority of the time your commenting on speculation at best and at the worst you are your simply talking absolute rubbish made up from some guy who whispered somthing down the local while he was half cut! :bang::bang:

It's anybody's guess. I expect we're interested but my gut feeling is that it's not a reciprocal thing and that's without even taking the terms we would be prepared to offer him into account.

The January transfer window and the summer transfer window are different in many ways. Generally speaking, you have to pay over the odds in January for many different reasons. Back in January, we were a CL outfit but we can't offer that carrot anymore. And I don't think Rossi had any other suitors back in January either.

its a flawed strategy trying to sign top quality players last minute. selling clubs cannot sign players last minute so why sell last minute. i dont think it is pr stunt but its not a reliable method

Maybe DL got the wrong man and thought he was buying Giuseppe Rossini.

I think those bids were made as a last gasp attempt to win fourth and secure CL money again next year so had they been successful and lead to us over taking Arsenal they would have off set their own price some what (while both players were also capable of retaining much of their value for resale)

I don't think Levy made the bids with no intention of putting his money where his mouth was.... but then i am basing it on very little
