I'm getting a little bit sick of the 'oh, Berbatov's leaving in the summer' posts. They wind me right up.

Do you think that the views we express on this forum and others like it aren't seen by the club? What do you think the communications director's job involves. They don't read every post, but they keep tabs on it as a way of keeping up with the mood of the fans.

IN that case, doesn't it make more sense for the fanbase to show that it doesn't want Berbatov to leave, rather than sending a message that we won't be too bothered by it?

If the board feel that the fanbase won't grumble much, they'll cash in. If they believe that the backlash will be immense, then they may stop and pause before accepting any offers, or at least do their utmost to keep him rather than letting him go easy.

At the end of the day, if you're happy - not resigned to it - actually happy for Berbatov to go, then keep waving the white flag. If you believe (pretty much as any sane Spurs fan does) that Berbatov is one of the greatest players to grace the field of White Hart Lane, let the powers that be know that you want him to stay, instead of giving up. Realise the power that we, the fans, wield and make a f****** statement!

Don't sell our Berbatov banners at the lane? mmn. Maybe a resounding chorus of Dim-i-tar Berbatov after he goes to the crowd at wembley to celebrate would persuade him.

I think Levy should take his contract extension to the game. Get him whilst he's emotional and basking in victory. One of my mates supports Man U and teases me everytime that he's on his way. I'd love berbs to snub them again.

lets just send the board letters detailing ''potential outcomes and implications'' of a berbatov transfer and sneidy letters revealing ''we know who really signed d.bent!''

It's a pretty lucrative job though to be ManU's feeder...

As long as they always pay OTT I'm all for it :hump:

Your welcome. As I say there is nothing we can do.

I hate to break it you, but you're actually making it easier for him to leave or for the club to sell him, because you're sending the message that you've already accepted it. It strikes me as a little pathetic.

Why should we resign ourselves to it? Do we stop supporting the team halfway through a season, because we won't win anything? Of course not! We support the club no matter what the outcome is. So even if it's a foregone conclusion, why should we just lie down and accept it? Answer that. Why should we just lie down and accept it? What do we gain?

I don't think you give Levy enough credit. He knows how much Berbatov means to the club. I think it's slightly supercilious to suggest the club needs the fans' input to make the right decision. Ultimately, it's in Berbatov's hands. Does he want to go, or will he sign a contract extension at some point. If you believe we'd sell Berbatov even if he wanted to stay (and sign an extension) to simply cash in, i think you're wrong. We're not strapped for cash. Not by a long way. 30m is a nice chunk of change for any club, but thankfully we're one of the few PL clubs that don't necessarily need it.

We've just spent 8m on a 28 year old, quality as he may be. We may spend money on a 32 year old, 8m on Hutton and ~9m on Tiago before it's all said and done. Levy's not exactly digging down the back of the sofa for change.

In my opinion, the only way we'll sell Berbatov is if he forces us to - i.e., he wants to go or refuses to sign an extension and looks like he might run his contract out.

It's all well and good expecting commitment from the club towards Berbatov. But he'll need to show some back too.

the only reason for Berbs to go is to play in the champions league next year. we're going to be there in 2 years.

I hope he stays - to me he's already a Spurs legend - and I'd certainly back us singing his name loud and clear at every game - but I think we do that anyway (or near enough)

in the end though if he wants to go in the summer fair enough and as I've said before i'd rather have £30m from Man U than £25m from the continent

Man U fans don't bother me in the slightest - tbh I've never really liked them since their infamous Argentina and general anti-England chants - luckily I don't know any on a personal level these days except a couple of Home Counties reds who are so typically unpassionate and never been to OT that they don't bother me in the slightest - it's like talking about cricket with them

I think you are right. It's very naive to suggest DL and DC (and Ramos) do not realise his importance to the team. They would sell him only if he wants out. After the end of next season he can buy out his contract. Surely, this is a very complicated procedure but if he is desperate to move to a team capable of winning the CL, he will try to do it, no matter what the risks are. His Italian representative said some weeks ago that that possibility (of buying out the contract) is real and it would "regulate his price in the summer".

Thing is Berbatov likes Ramos very much and realises, he can win cups with the Spaniard. Therefore, he isn't desperate to leave, at least till the summer. But, in my view, his great dream is to win the CL and this is what will determine his decision.

Well said Rez, I do think we can make a difference and indeed I think we are making a difference, the average joe on here does tend to be a little more defeatist than those who wander down to the Lane, Berbs gets alot of singing and general adulation pouring down from the stands and he's commented as such, thats all we can do, try and make him fall in love with the support and club, a trophy or two might help as well.

Never thought I'd say this but Berbatov isn't the diamond in the team....the real diamond geezer is the enigma which is Robbie KEANE. Keane has really come of age over the last two seasons, I hope he can keep it up.

By last 2 seasons do you mean this season and last? The seasons where he's been playing alongside Berbatov every week?

We've had great individuals in our side for decades, but it's not individuals that win you trophies. I want to keep Berbatov because he's great for the team. He and Keane are THE best strike pairing in the premiership imo and I wouldn't want to see that split up! They bring the best out of each other. And selling our star player to United (again) would be a very negative statement as to our ambitions.
