Have we been pretty good against the better sides this year?I think it's fair to expect that we're playing a lot better by the time the knockout stages start. Besides, we have been pretty good vs. the better sides this season, and unless City end up third, the teams we meet will be of the same standard as Southampton, Everton and Arsenal.
I think you kinda missed the point. We have been trounced by the top teams but we do better when we play the ahem "better" teams who come to play against us.Have we been pretty good against the better sides this year?
Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea all beat us by 3 clear goals and then went on to show their form by losing/dropping points to weaker teams or teams we were until recently much better than
Ok we got a point of Arsenal by parking the bus but they just got spanked by Stoke and have been very poor this year (while still out playing us and us scraping a point by the skin of our teeth)
We beat Everton when we admittedly played well but they've been it pretty terrible form leading up to that game in the league and lost again since
Maybe we seem to play better against teams who attack us and struggle against teams who sit back and catch us on the break - I dunno but I think the Europa cup this year is a complete day dream and I don't think we have a chance
We'll probably lose on Thursday and end up with a CL drop out in the next round which will make progression more difficult
All very pessimistic on this thread. The margins between mediocrity (where we are now) and success are quite slim in my opinion. All it takes is for Soldado to find form combined with some of the collective form that we showed against Everton, confidence builds, we go on a good run of games over the rest of December and Jan then things start to look very different. When the Europa starts again, the run continues and the momentum builds and we could find ourselves going quite far in the competition.
Well that's one scenario.
Well look at Sevilla.Win the Europa League?
hahahahahaha... we are struggling to beat mid to lower table PL teams at home and you think we can beat seasoned European teams over 2 legs?
If "we are not winning anything soon", doesn't that mean we should be winning something?Agree we are not winning nothing anytime soon and as you say we are quarter finals and bust.

Obviously you'd prefer to win the Europa League than finish fourth, a trophy and CL next season. But I don't agree at all, I think its a tougher ask than finishing fourth given how badly so many of the bigger Clubs in the Prem are doing, Its open season for fourth, and possibly third, for anyone who can put a really good run together.
Both should be the priority but with no EL until February we should be resting as many as we can for this Thursday given we're already through.
A good run over the festive period could put us in a very good position, particularly if we improve in the second half of the season.
So its a raft of changes for me this Thursday, as if we were to win our next three League games we're in business by the time United and Chelsea come to the Lane.
Olyimpiakos, Anderlecht, Zenit and Liverpool drop into the EL. Don't see us beating any of those teams over 2 legs on our current form. Possibly City or Roma to drop in tomorrow. I'll be amazed if we get past the quarters tbh
Cup games can be funny things. Those 4 teams don't look all that and I reckon things could go our way over a couple of games. City and Roma would worry me. Both of them are too good for us.
We can't be drawn against another EPL club in the round of 32, can we?
In the normal run of things I'd fancy us against Olympiakos and Anderlecht, and probably Zenit too.
No, but I mean going on to face City or Liverpool afterwards.
