Because it is being asked and asked and asked and to save everyone from RSI here's the lowdown.

1: We need to win the Carling Cup to qualify for the UEFA Cup next season. Losing finalists do not get a place.

2: If we win the UEFA Cup this season, we qualify to defend it the following season as holders.

So, to qualify for european football next season, we need to achieve one of the following.

A win over Chelsea in the Carling Cup Final
Win the UEFA Cup
Finish high enough in the league
I won't mention the Intertoto Cup. ooops.

So, no more threads asking this please. Pretty please?

That is all

No need to mention the Intertoto as we won't be in it. Entries had to be made by 15th Jan I believe.

He cannot, as Rangers are now in the Uefa Cup.

Yes, now they are. But they were in the Champions League and hasn't played in the Uefa Cup, so he could be available to play for us.

Happened with someone last season, who played in the CL, joined a team in the Uefa Cup and played.

Not 100% sure.

Nope, it doesn't matter that he hasn't kicked a ball in the Uefa Cup for Rangers, all that matters is:

1, He has played in Uefa Competition
2, His old team are now in the Uefa Cup

This makes him cup-tied, unfortunately.

Yep, Anelka is available for Chelsea in CL. You can play for one club in Uefa Cup and then go to another club and play CL in the same season but you can't do it the other way around.

Stupid, but that's how it is.

And there's nothing to say if we've done that. I believe that it's down to clubs to announce they've applied or not, so unless Spurs come out and confirm we didn't then we don't know

They would never announce it cos its not really something to be proud of.

The first you will hear of it, if we applied, is as the end of the season.

oh... dont forget there is always the Fair Play route....although with a red card nearly every other game that unlikly too.

Not quite. Anelka's available for Chelsea because Bolton haven't been in the CL at any stage this season.

Had Rangers qualified for the CL last 16, Hutton would be available for us because his old club would not have been in the UEFA Cup at any stage. That's the crucial point - Hutton's played in Europe for a club that is now in the same UEFA competition as us.

I call it the Rocha Rule.

thanks for your post Archibald&Crooks

some people think we qualified for UEFA cup because we reached Carling club against top 4 team, because they think it is smilar situation to Millwall as they played in UEFAC cup despite there defeat against CL qualifier in Man Utd, That because they were F.A runners-up, not Carling cup cup runners up ) .

i hope anyone can explaine it better for some people as i can't do it more due to my poor English

People should just think back and ask themselves whether or not Wigan played in the UEFA Cup after they lost the CC final to Man U.

The answer is, of course, no.

Sky keep getting it wrong, it's becoming a farce.

We are NOT in Europe if we lose the CC final. If the winner is in the top 5 at the end of the season the place goes to 6th in the League. End of.

See my post above: Did Wigan get into Europe? NO!
