It is very difficult to get "high quality" players in January. But I think we should sign GK, CB and hopefully at last a creative CM.

Have faith in Robbo. All keepers have a bad spell. Rememebr the last 2 years when the sun shined out of his arse. When on form he is a great keeper. He will get back to that form, im sure. We have Cerny as cover & also Alnwick as an up & coming.

Engalnds no1, englands, englands no 1.

I'm not sure what last 2 years you mean. I remember he was very shaky last season, especially with long shots and in commanding his area. I still had faith in him and believed that was just one bad season. But when this season hasn't shown any kind of improvement, (have to admit our defence has been crap as a whole and Robbo isn't the only one to blame) , I'm not so confident anymore and think we need a new GK. He has been a great one, but has lost his form. This is a way too long bad spell IMO.

Arshavin would be a great signing he is the left midfielder we need. he has leadership qualities and is a hard grafter.
I want to see a centre mid and centre back also.

On sky sports text 265 they have clearly made a mistake. they seem to think jol is still in charge.

i agree his abilty to deal with long shots needs work, the defence has been poor but the keeper is always the fall guy. Who would we sign that would 1) be as good as robbo on form & 2) want to come to spurs with someoone like Robbo challangin for a place. I beleive its all down to confidence with Robbo, Maybe some serious competition for his first team place would do him good.

But they weren't 2-0 down against Italy early on either. italy didn't score their second until the final 10 minutes. It doesn't mean a great deal but Essien was named MOTM against Czech and Appiah was named MOTM against the USA. I still maintain "limped" out is harsh. They might not have been the best Brazillian side ever, but they were all world class players. Just look at the difference in quality:
DIDA (GK), CAFU (C), LUCIO , JUAN, EMERSON, ROBERTO CARLOS , ADRIANO, KAKA, RONALDO, RONALDINHO, ZE ROBERTO

Compared to (club they played for in brackets):

Kingson (Ankaraspor)
Gyan (Modena)
Mensah (Cremonese)
Pappoe (Hoepel Kfar Saba)
Shilla (Asante Kotoko)
Muntari (Udinese)
Appiah
Amoah (Vittesse)
Paisil (Tel Aviv)
Addo (Roda)
Draman (Genclergirlgi)

I haven't even heard of most of those players and half those clubs. Getting to the second round was a great achievement. When you consider they lost 2-0 to Italy with their star player and not having a man sent off, 3-0 really isn't that bad. When you consider they replaced Essien with Shilla, it's like England losing Gerrard and replacing him with Fae (SK's favourite Reading player).

the Italian team and Czech teams had a similar gulf on paper but Ghana from the second half of the Italian game all the way thorugh till the start of the Brazillian game were very good. Competive. Thier showing against Brazil even taking into consideration the talent on either side was poor in comparison. By the high standards they had set previously they limped out imo.

Joey (and BC if your reading this) Appiah really isn't very good. He won't be in Ramos' radar so i won't be proved right but hopefuly someone like Everton will buy him so you can see.

The thing with Appiah is that since not making it at Juve after his move from Parma he has been at Fenerbache, surely if he was the quality some are talking about then he would have moved back to a better European club, at 26 he is the right age but imo we could find better.

Disagree 101mil %.

He is the perfect squad player - just for a club with a lot lower ambitions than ourselves.

Honestly, opposing players must just shiver with fear when they see him warming up Eek "Oh my god - I'd better run a bit faster now Teemu is on the pitch"
and will they be thinking the same after the second tackle, then the third? Will they be thinking the same when, fully fit, he can make that extra yard to the edge of the box and score a cracker, like he has done in the past.

He works far harder than most give him credit for and is the ONLY player on our squad to be committed enough to, if he loses the ball, misses a pass, or doesn't make the first tackle, will be straight back on his feet to get back into the swing of things. He plays to the whistle, not the foul, stays on his feet when he can and pushes forward when given the space...

As i said, the reason i think most people find it easy to knock him is because a) He's from a nation that hasn't got the reputation of, say Portugal, Brazil or Argentina, and b) his stamina means that if he starts a game then he's unlikely to last 90 minutes - partly his waning stamina, partly because he works so bloody hard.

If, at the end of the game, any player who's been on from the start walks into the dressing room and isn't out of breath then they should get the kicking of their life - Teemu, i guarantee, walks in and slumps. We need that kind of work ethic in the middle, he just needs someone who complements his style of play and, i think Ramos can appreciate that and will see him as a very likely candidate for the middle of the park, once he's fit.

I could not disagree with you more!

Appiah was awesome in the Italy game. Every Ghanaian attack went through him and he out shone Essien hands down. He was their best player by a country mile. If I still had te games on Sky+ I'd show you just how wrong you are tRiks

I wish you did too. Clearly everything went through Appaih in the first half and they were poor and from half time all the way to the Brazil game Everything went through Essien and they were good. I wish so much you still had it Sky +'ed.

It doesn't mean that much, but he was the offiical FIFA MOTM against the USA and I was just looking for some stats (i can't find any) to see if he was more or less involved than Essien and I found ESPN's match ratings for the tournament and they make him the 12th best player (according to average match ratings) at WC 2006. Obviously it doesn't mean a great deal and certainly doesn't show he was the 12 the best player at the WC (It's only an average based largelly on group games). But is shows that in genral people thought he played well. Though as I said before general consensus isn't worth that much.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/worldcup/stats?type=mid&year=2006&cc=5739

Also there are a few reviews of the Ghana v Brazil game and they are all kind about Ghana's performance and generally the feeling was the score flattered Brazil. Here is a BBC review:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2006/4991528.stm

And here is an interview in which Appiah speaks of Arsenal wanting him. He actually says he already feels 50% and Arseanl player, so it would be an odd thing to say if he didn't feel it was going to happen. There is a later interview he gives, in which he explains why he never left Fenerbache, as they wouldn't release him, but I can't find it at the moment.

Gilberto Silva seems to be genuinely out in the cold @ the Arse, and he isn't going to sit around in their ressies at his age, so he could well be available in January. If he's played in the Champions League, he'd be cup-tied, so that might be a problem for many of the big European teams. He's obviously a top player, but for Ramos he'd have to play the Poulsen CM role and he's nowhere near as aggressive. Good player, but hopefully we're after even better.

Such as Javier Mascherano who's only on loan @ Liverpool. Several papers today reported that Liverpool's Yank owners are refusing to give Benitez any more cash in January, so Mascherano may be available for around £17 million. That's pretty much what we got for Carrick, and given Mascherano is only 23 and will be a key player for Argentina for the next decade, that's probably fair market price. He's even spent a season and a half adjusting the EPL. So, if he was available, and the deal was clean, I'd definitely seriously consider him.

Mascherano is one of my fav players in world football today and would be absolute perfection for us. BUT he has said that if he cant sign for Liverpool then he will not play for another English club so i reckon he will probably go Barca unfortunately

Portuguese U21 midfielder Stelvio is believed to be attracting interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

All 3 clubs had scouts at this weeks U-21 match between England and Portugal, and Stelvio is believed to have made a good impression on the Premiership trio

Mascherano would be pure class. Exactly who we need. He's a warrior.

We need to break up the opponents play. He is a very hard man to beat. I'd put in a cheaky bid for Samba too. Blackburn have a very spacially aware centerback. Like Carrick, these types of players can read the game, when others simply end up chasing it.

I'd put Mascherano top of my list, followed by Sissoko and then Alonso. If Benitez suddenly goes, we could get our man. Gilberto just aint cuttin it for me, although to be fair he can read the passage of play well and make a difference.

We need a couple of decent central midfielders!! Jenas and Zokora fall short of the standard we are trying to achieve. Would like to see Arteta for sure!!! Get rid of Zokora he just aint good enough!!
