Sorry to ask but can someone dm me or point me to where I can find some gifs of the goals. I'm in the most remote part of Egypt with a camel on one side and an old man trying to sell me his piss on the other. I'm desperate!! Ta
Feck me, not again.

Made me laugh (and think of @Bus-Conductor) on Defoe on F365's winners and losers: "Defoe was caught offside four times in the first 23 minutes of his debut, and failed to have a shot on target. The best statistic was that he attempted just five passes, and two of those were kick-offs."

Funny post but in fact it just shows how little worth stats are. I am no Defoe fan (the reverse, in fact) but many refs would have given that challenge as a pen and he won the free kick that got them their goal. That is one of the rare matches when I saw Verts rattled.
Not match fit that was a1st class debut for Defoe.

It was never a penalty. Dizzle tried to buy it...he threw himself over Vertonghen's standing leg - and Vert was stationery.

That was my take on it watching live in the stadium and I felt confirmed I'm this opinion when I saw the game on sky in the evening

I was shocked to see all the pundits talking about how it was a clear penalty and suggesting we had got away with it

One other thing that hasn't really been pointed out

Against weaker opposition, like yesterday, I liked how verts smartly intercepts the ball and runs through the space in the middle, releases it, but carries on his runs into the box....

He doesn't do it every match, but I felt he was intelligent enough to know that he could do it today + the fact that Sunderland plays with 3 CBs, so by being in the box, he helps add to the attacking numbers.

Of course, the match that he did it to most devastating effect was our first win at OT in aeons when AvB was head coach
Jan was playing left back in that match at Old Trafford.

Yes like we have for the other 6 we've conceded so far this season.

It was very similar to the one at Man City against Kompany. I didn't think it was a pen either but it could easily have been given.

Yes it could easily have been given by officials watching it in real time without the benefit of replays - I'm not disputing that

I agree it was like the kombat by penalty which was given - though like defoes incident I don't think it was s penalty either

I wouldn't have been at all surprised if sunderlan had been given a penalty - what surprised me was the pundits having had multiple chances to review it on replays and slow motions were still suggesting it was a penalty

Not just saying it was - basically suggesting it was clear cut and Sunderland were robbed

That's what shocked me

Its all opinion and a lot of people are of the opinion that if there is any contact no matter who initiates it then it should result in a penalty... I don't see what either Vertonghen or Kompany were supposed to do about it... It was definitely an ohhhh shit moment though...

From the Paxton in real time it looked a penalty and a huge sigh of relief went up when Foy pointed for a corner.

Then again it was all he gave us.
