Im just happy Pep will have another chance to rub Mourinho's nose in it. I used to be indifferent to City but when they play United I will be a big fan until Mourinho leaves.

On the way back from the game. All were excellent, but special mentions to all the youth graduates. They all looked very comfortable. Winks looked like he'd played there for years. CCV was as strong as an ox and even Carroll looked good.

Gillingham were absolutely woeful though, didn't make a tackle all night.

To be fair the boys kept the ball moving with very crisp passing, to the point where the usual 1st team should have learnt something!

Yeah, Winks and Carroll kept it ticking over very nicely in the middle I thought. Winks was outstanding.

I think I'm right in saying we played Liverpool at Anfield in league cup 4th round in 1999 and won 3-1 on the way to winning the competition. Sky live game with Allan Neilson on the scoresheet.
So perhaps a good omen!

If Winks doesnt get England callup in next 12 to 24 months, I will be amazed. What a home grown player to have, Top quality CM performance. Impressed in preseason, impressed today too. I have not seen him give away the ball yet this season.

IMO, potential Dembele replacment in XI - not same type of players but Winks brings so much to the table.

The level of the opponent not withstanding, this was a phenomenal team performance. We made 11 changes and didn't skip a beat. Fantastic performance and the cherry on top, for me, was all the awesome debuts.

Watching tonight made me think of all those early round Europa games. Except tonight was what they were supposed to be and rarely (if ever) actually were.

So many players tonight seemed determined to seize their moment. Winks, Onomah, CCV, Carroll all excellent with the senior guys - Janssen, Eriksen and Lamela in particular looking a cut above (as they should!)

Really good nights work.

I honestly wish none of our players played for any international team including England. Wishful thinking I know but it always takes something out of them with Rose being the latest casualty

Well said. The kids should get a chance to play against a strong Liverpool team (since they have no European competitions to play for) and will be motivated to show Poch what they can do. If they lose, its a good experience. If they win we go through to the next round and they'll be motivated even more. Win/Win for us.
If Poch is happy to put out the kids in full premiership matches then I agree he should play them against Liverpool.

Flat track bullies especially that Eriksen.
More of the same boys.
Wimmer staking a claim again.
All the youngsters stepped up
and particularly struck by lovely relationship with Poch
on the touchline when waiting to come on.

Possibly my favourite moments last night, were those seconds before Edwards and Walkes came on, standing on the touchline, Pochettino's arm around their shoulder giving last minute instructions and telling them to go out and enjoy themselves.

You can see the rapport and respect that Poch has with the whole team, and the kids must absolutely love him. For all the arguments about whether he's blooded enough quickly enough, it certainly looks as though he's got everyone on board and on message.
