Won't keep the restless crew quiet.
Is he better than Vorm?
Will he block upcoming youngsters if any?

Pau already gone back to Espanyol
without getting any minutes.

Is it just for the Gazza gags?

Well, he's 8 years younger than Vorm and £4m cheaper than Pau.

They clearly want a younger keeper in the mix, don't rate what we have in youth (as we were already entertaining signing Pau) and Espanyol wouldn't take our cheeky offer. So this is fairly "on message" and predictable, at the amount we wanted to pay.

I don't know the guy really but pretty sure he played against us when we beat them?

Was he scouted by Poch and Mitchell when they were at Southampton?

We'll get some players in, I'm sure. Levy and Poch know what they're doing, the only downer is whether the lack of a pre-season with us inhibits their bedding in period.

I wonder if leaving it till August means we have to pay over the odds, or whether the boot is on the other foot and we are forcing clubs to accept lower fees. Probably depends on the club situation e.g. with Everton and Barkley the longer it drags on, the lower the price (I assume). But with clubs with less of a need to sell, maybe it works the other way

Anyway I'm not overly-anxious about the lack of signings and would rather we sign no one than panic buying the wrong player

Essentially early deals come under the following categories:
  1. Out of contract
  2. Buy out clause
  3. Lack of interest from other clubs
  4. Largely over paying
By the end of the window there will be players surplus to requirements or it has become clear there is a lack of interest.

We have massively taken advantage of this over the years. VDV would be the classic example.

Barkley is clearly a big target for us. Come the end of the window if Everton have bought their players they are going to have a choice. Do they want him in the squad, unhappy with a contract running down.

Or do they sell him at the best price they can get?

Problem is with this tactic with not getting our targets can end us short and we buy the likes of Sissoko or Frazier Campbell. Also no preseason.

But overall assessing the market rather than jumping in has done well for us. We have improved a huge amount and within our budget.

Avalanches are usually harbingers
of death and destruction and to be feared.
See the avalanche of signings after the Bale windfall.
Prefer a light snowfall myself.

It was pun intended.
Btw, live in a country where several people die every year due to avalanches so I do know a bit about them :)

We didn't buy him. We got him as part of the Berba deal.

So i have the misfortune of coming from a place near Gillingham who were his first club in England.
He is a top fella very polite, used to ride his bike to training everyday, nothing like the usual small town flash ****s that usually play for the Gills.
Also doubt if this would have any bearing on the transfer but he is actually from the same town in Argentina as Poch.
Another tidbit it was former gooner and current southampton goalkeeping coach Vince Bartram who scouted him for gillingham.

As for him being our third choice keeper its a bit disappointing we have so little faith in our own especially given how unlikely he/they are to play over Hugo or Vorm. I do however think he is a better keeper than we have seen in his outings at Southampton.

But we still got him as a result of not getting our proper targets, talk about petty pedanticism.
The aim that summer was to keep Berba. Just as we did with Modric, when Chelsea came knocking, two years later, and as we are doing now. The fact that he left on the final day, shows that we almost did it. Had it not been for Shitty getting flush that very day, we would have done it, as United had no intention of meeting the 30mln pound price tag we demanded.
So no, it's not pendanticism, it getting your facts straight.
