Heung-min Son is keen to commit the rest of his career to Tottenham as they prepare to offer him a bumper new deal. The 31-year-old has been thrilled by the significant impact of manager Ange Postecoglou and is eager to play a key role in the club’s long-term future.

He'll be 32 in July, so effectively at the end of this season. The article says we can activate a 1 year extension to his current deal, so we can extend to the end of 2026. At this point he'll be 34.

Save for a pay rise on his current deal, which he totally deserves, I'm not sure what new deal there is to be made to extend the current contract, unless we see him playing until 35/36. Not impossible of course, but if his pace does drop off then he certainly won't be the same player he currently is.

How much more 'long term' are we thinking for him? He does seem to be picking up a few niggles lately.

Also how amazing would it be to be able to keep him on after he finishes playing as our Asian ambassador?!

Son holds a lot of value to thfc plc as well as the playing squad. How much he has left in his legs at this level is moot, but there's a bigger picture to his deal.

Hope he stays around the club in one capacity or another for years.

I fear a Lloris like drop off

A striker wont be under the microscope the way lloris was as the squad wont be as exposed on the front line, and if Son does drop off drastically, a lack of scoring/contribution wont be as high profile as keeper clangers.

But heres to hoping that doesnt happen. Hes been about as loyal as we could expect in a player, so save for huge money from saudi (which hes swatted away already but in 2-3 years time who knows) would love to have him in the squad in some form or another depending on how he goes as he gets older.

Don't see it imo.

Still chasing every ball in the press and burning past players right now at 31, and in fact seems more able to play with niggly injuries than ever before as he can manage himself.

I have no worries about him for the coming 4 seasons.
Besides, I reckon Levy has one eye on him as Club Ambassador post career.

Yes I agree he's definitely a person I would love associated to our club. He sends out all the right vibes, is a gentleman and an excellent leader.
He could work wonders for the youth players in attitude and discipline.

He looks after himself well so I think he still has some years left at the top level. His game isn't just about his pace either. He has clever movement and he's one of the best finishers in the sport. Those won't fade for a while.

To be fair and aside from how long he's got left in his legs, to have a player of Son's talent and worldwide profile, wanting to spend pretty much his entire career at out club is something we should be very proud of.
It's also a sign of how we've come as a club.

one more contract for us, and maybe a stint back in Korea before retiring...

seriously... when we first signed him, i was thinking... token asian player. never expected him to make it, let alone be captain and frankly a club legend. expected him to be like Lee YP, decent player for a couple of seasons.

i hope he continues with us after the hangs up his boots.

True. I was very angry at Levy for not signing Mane at that time.

To be fair even after his football career ends the world is his oyster, he could become a club ambassador, I imagine he'd be a good coach as well.

Lots of reasons to sign him on for longer even if his playing career dwindles in the next 3 years.

The marketing side of things alone would cover his wages (I imagine)

Historically and currently one of Tottenham's greatest servants. He should be treated accordingly.

We treat ex players very well for the most part. So I'd imagine he would be given the chance to be an ambassador or something along those lines post retirement.

I’m not sure he’ll be staying over here once he retires. Having worked with a lot of Koreans I suspect he will go home and follow the traditional Korean path in life. His parents seem like a very big influence on his life, and they’ll likely want him to find a nice Korean wife and start a family.
