Groups we've had so far since being in the CL:

2011 - Inter, Werder Bremen, Twente (1st)
2016 - Monaco, Leverkusen, Moscow (3rd)
2017 - Real Madrid, Dortmund, Apoel (1st)
2018 - Barcelona, Inter, PSV (2nd)
2019 - Bayern Munich, Olympiakos, Red Star

On paper, you would probably say it's the 2nd hardest group we've had so far.
I'd say it's one of the easier ones. Let's not forget Inter were champions when we played them in '11, and Werder were in a good place. The only easier set of teams were the ones from 2016, which ironically was the only group we didn't progress from.

What I take from this post is how cool it looks to see 4 straight years of Champions League qualification. But I don’t think that was your point. Sorry.

Pedro Martins, Olympiacos coach: "Everything can happen in football, but we have been drawn in a very tough group. Bayern Munich are among the 10 best teams in world football, while Tottenham were finalists last season. We will do our best to qualify. We have a very good team, but for most of our players this will be their first participation in the group stage. We want to qualify, however these are high hurdles ahead."

Heung-Min Son, Tottenham forward: "Bayern will be special because they are one of the biggest teams in Europe, you’re always excited to play in this competition against these teams. We need to remember and learn from what we did last year."

Son's quote has me worried, because it seems this team can only get excited in the CL when playing the powerhouse clubs.

Might be one of the weaker Bayern sides of the last decade as well. Still an excellent side, but I don't think they are real contenders to win UCL like normal. Dortmund the favorite to win Bundesliga in my view.

You've read far too much into that.

Yeah. They are definitely a team in transition, maybe a bit like us. Biggest weakness is Kovac, who’s a very average coach, IMO.

Being in Pot 2 really makes a lot of difference. Seems to be the most manageable group so far in our UCL journey. Makes you wonder if such seeding is really fair to the lesser teams...

Free passes given to them already ffs.

Chill, it’s just a standard quote mate. Probably in reply to a question such as “how do you feel about being drawn in Bayern’s group?”.

Does the best Bayern supporter message board on the internet have a 100+ page thread on whether or not Kovac is the issue? Just curious.

I think it's fair enough because you don't need UCL success to build your coefficient. A couple GS appearances or EL runs is enough to get you to Pot 3, and at that point you have pretty much a 50/50 chance of drawing a beatable team from either 1 or 2. Consistently being in the GS or EL quarters is enough for Pot 2 where you're likely to be favourites. It rewards teams who are consistently good enough to finish at the top of their own leagues, get into the European tournaments, and crucially take the Europa seriously.
