Tim sitting in the stands at Benfica came across as quite odd...then he did it again against Southampton explaining that he could see much more of the game than when he's on the touch line. Fair point I suppose. He also said he suggested to levy that the new stadium should have a raised dugout for us and a ground level one for the opposition thus giving us a bigger advantage when we need to switch things around. I remember seeing/reading somewhere how Harry Redknapp hired his son as an "eye in the sky" for us and am now thinking that maybe lack of a good view of the game for a manager could be a contribution to our shortcomings over recent years. Not saying that it's all the dugout's fault but fergie used to have a seat higher up at OT and always seemed to roll over teams in the second half. And since The Scum moved to the emirates, they ain't won bugger all with their ground level touch line. Any thoughts?

I reckon someone has had a word, told him to take a back seat and cool down.
Whether you agree with his antics or not, we have become a bit of laughing stock on the open market.
We dont need bad publicity right now.

To be honest, that was my first thought when I watched the benfica game.

It was a strange coincidence but in the Benfica home game I was saying to my Dad that's it's funny that as a manager you watch the game from the touchline as it's such a restricted view and really doesn't give you and overview of the pitch. I remember Jose saying he wanted screens back in the dugout so he could see the tv pictures.

Then literally the next game Sherwood's in the stands and one of his excuses is that he can't see from pitch level.

Anyway I don't think it's a big deal - there is an increasing number of managers spending at least some time in the stands to get an overview, usually when they might be trying a new formation or system.

In his own words he said he can see hardly anything from the touch line. Try playing fifa with the side view and see how difficult it is

The view from the upper stands is so much better...when I sit at pitch
level it's difficult to really see what's happening all over the pitch
it just makes sense to me

We've looked shit in both games where he has been in the stands. As soon as he came down to have a go the players started to put the effort in.

Just like at WHL when he was playing with the away dugout down and off centre.

I was at Northampton as a bit for a kid and used the away changing rooms sometimes for training, the walls were painted pink, no heater and the toilet leaked...on purpose obviously.

Not sure they'd get away with that at the Lane now, there's probably some rule to protect the fairy players.

I think he has a good point, and besides, I have much more confidence in Rambo's coaching abilities, so I don't mind Sherwood being in the stands with Rambo on the touchline.

If he likes to live dangerously he could always just read the matchthread for some pointers

I'm not sure if it was Fergie or not but I do remember that there was one premiership manager that used to watch from the stands and ring on an internal phone down to the dugout with his instructions. certainly when I used to go to games I tried to get to the back of the lower stands as I didn't like the view nearer the front, so maybe there is some methods to TS's madness!

Well the thing i have been wondering about Tim's seating choice...

At Benfica he didn't seem to have a radio or mobile with him, and with Southampton it didn't seem like he did either.

So does that mean to communicate with the sideline he is just waving his arms around and shouting at the bench?
Do we have someone strategically placed to watch for his waving arms?

Because if we don't then just give me the job, i can wave my arms and shout from the stands with the best of them.

When Big Sam was at Bolton i always remember him sitting up high and he would have a earpiece in talking to his assistant manager, passing on instructions for him to give his players.

To be fair, given how he had Bolton playing, Big Sam was probably nearer the action when he was sat up high.

So that's why the fans know more than the managers.
