One for our development squad surely. We have Perisic, Sessegnon, and Udogie coming in the summer who will expect to challenge for the LWB starting position. Thierry Small would be a homegrown option for the future, but we would be best loaning him straight back out to continue his development.

In terms of playing style, apparently physically very strong for his age (speed+strength) but quite laid back defensively. Interestingly he was meant to go out on loan in the summer because he was frustrated he wasn’t starting more first team games for Southampton so clearly quite ambitious. I presume he’ll end up loaned out in the summer as it’s hard to see him get a look in here unless he really impresses us. General consensus is that he looks like he could be a very good player.

So instead of collecting right wing backs we now collect left wing backs? Ndogie, Sess, Perisic, Small

Nice to see the academy coming together now though. It got a bit stale for a while (like the senior squad). This feels like making up for losing Cirkin.

A promising signing if we pull it off.

I feel like this is the kind of signing that got us to where we are, so glad that we appear to be going back to the strategy of signing promising young English players.

@Trix, what’s with all the WTF ratings?

Do you not agree with what has been posted?

Could maybe even put the pressure on Sess.

RWB - With Porro, Emerson, and Spence you'd hope we can form some combination of 2 of them over the next few years. Whether Porro (attacking)/Emerson (defensive) or two solid RWBs (Porro & Spence is the dream), but you get the point.

LWB although crowded, you could hope the same develops. The best case scenario would be Udogie and Sess, but with Sess' form this season, they could be doubling down on a HG option there. Perisic may have one more season with us, but I'd imagine he heads out after that. So now we'd be hoping two of Udogie/Sess/Small could provide a duo there for years.

Sess is a lost cause for me. We should cash in on him in the summer so ideal if we can have another prospect to back up Udogie and Perisic.

Seems like very clever business. Sessegnon isn't up to it, but we kind of need a HG alternative if we're to move him on. And he'll eventually be club trained if we don't loan him out (if I'm not mistaken, we can even loan him out for one season).

This is all well and good but these players need a pathway to the 1st team, if we are getting back to that then great.

Sadly he hasnt shown enough improvement.

I thought Conte would have helped him step up, maybe he did in sell doses but he's not really excelling.

The issue of course is that should Conte go, and a coach who plays front foot football come in, then I expect him to be given a chance to be coached.

Agreed, don’t have much confidence that this has been the case so far with Conte.

Just watched a few videos and he looks to be a very attacking full back with the confidence to beat a man. Great physique and pace too.

Definitely has a promising future with our without us.

He did get a loan in the summer - was loaned to Port Vale in League Two, but recalled in November because he wasn't getting gametime.
