Maybe the DM being "done", meant just that out targets were sorted and agreed, with talks on track. Not that any thing has been confirmed yet because if it was, I can't see why we wouldn't release it, or at least why more hasn't been leaked. It's not like it's going to make any difference to our outgoings now. If it's being kept hush hush, it's because it's not "done".

I really hope it's true. And even moreso I hope he's done before the game in the States next week so I can see him play in a lilywhite shirt in person

What do they say about assumptions being the mother of all fuck ups lol.

Anyway, he can't of been done, he's been playing for Everton all week in the Far East o_O

Yep, to assume is to make an ass out of u and me.

seems jasper is confirming that mccarthy was the 'dm done' ??

fordhodssake: Only a couple of days ago you were saying that we had a DM sorted and we would be very excited about the new signing on their way (or words to that effect).
jasper: Not a turnaround at all. I use an assumption that DM (McCarthy) is signed, based upon previous posts conversations, I then carried that argument on. Where then is the turnaround?

Can someone explain what is being said here please?

Sooo, is Jasper just saying that to his knowledge McCarthy was done? And that his comments were an assumption based off what his sources had told him? Maybe something changed since he's been playing for Everton and Martinez seems adamant he's staying. Bit confused tbh.

Doesn't one make an assumption, rather than use one?
Using someone else's assumptions would be stupid, no? :bored:

The McCarthy signing would make me happy for two reasons:

1) He's a quality player that would improve our starting XI

2) It would likely stop Stone's move to Chelsea, as Everton wouldn't hear the end of it from supporters should they sell both. Any time we can disrupt Chelsea a bit, it's a positive.

So jasper assumed we had a DM (McCarthy) sorted based on conversations with his sources, but it sounds like he was jumping the gun a bit?

I think 'DM is done' is pretty unequivocal in it's meaning... Don't know why people try save other's face by trying to give their words new meaning.

Well the way I interpret it he doesn't think he has jumped the gun. Seems he's sticking to it, and still feels we have McCarthy sorted. It's odd because Martinez sounds pretty adamant that he isn't leaving.

Did he even state it as unambiguously as "done?" I thought it was simply "sorted," and took it to mean he was our identified target at this point.

We also need to account for the fact that our targets and priorities could change as the window progresses - not because of availability but say for example, we were going for a young-ish, talented midfielder but after watching Alli in training have decided not to loan him out and so therefore, out target could change from an up and comer to and older, experienced head who won't expect to play so much and will help the youngsters more.
Plus that'll have a knock on affect to our other targets (strikers) because it'll change the money we'll have to spend.

'DM is done' - Defensive midfielder is sorted/completed.

Assuming you're right... Unless Jasper is some primitive being and can only speak in broken English; why would he choose to say the above as opposed to mentioning McCarthy has been identified as a target or chosen as our number one choice.

Like I said, people are trying to change what was and still is a very definitive statement.

To be honest, an older head is what has been needed in the first place. If they were just realising that now then you have to question the brain capacities of those involved...

If I ever go postal, I'm going to hunt down folks who use acronyms for players we don't own and give them a jolly good talking to.

So frustrating, even MP thinks so.

This is jasper on July 9:
DM sorted. Just a matter of time as with striker. Those are kind of close. 2nd striker may be near end of window. 2nd meaning new signing or loan to buy. McCarthy is too much money with high risk fitness wise. If we went for him would imho mean that others failed. Two oversea deals being worked on, even back up ones. All huge exciting potential. The overseas is the ones I refer to at the beginning.

Thats seems to be at odds with him talking about McCarthy as the DM who is "sorted".
