Was a pretty decent set of fights yesterday. Alvarez was very impressive!

Can't wait for UFC 200! Tempted to stay up. But got such a busy Sunday.. Decisions decisions!

Yes I am but the fight should have been on the main card, I just happened to found out about by chance. I want to see him fight Khabib.
I think Khabib will have at least one more fight before getting a title shot (maybe even a rematch with RDA)

Cerrone holds a fairly recent win over the new champ and being such a company man and crowd favourite I expect him to get the shot (would also set up a Nate Cerrone 2 title fight potentially if both were to win)

I agree with you though - on merit Khabib should really be in the picture for a title shot now, but I think his inactivity through injury will count against him

Lay and prey wrestling is so fucking boring

I really wish the UFC would change the rules so that fights get stood up quickly unless so,etching very significant is happening on the ground

The chess match on the ground without any damage being caused or submissions being actively attempted completely ruin fights as a spectator sport

Fair play to Anderson coming in at such short notice and hanging with a much bigger stronger man though

I think it's obvious that Dana rethought his initial decision to put Brock vs hunt on the main even was to avoid him having to do 5 rounds with Hunt

Disappointing fight

Its not great to watch but it's called MMA . DC did what he had to do, his first objective is to win the fight. I thought it was terrible he got booed. The guy carries himself like a true champion.

Well it didn't really live up to the hype. Not many memorable fights.

Aldo is so boring to watch. Hopefully Conor sparks him out early again so I don't have to watch 25 mins of him running away with the odd counter attack.

Wonder what's next for Brock. JDS seems to be chomping at the bit!

Yea I know, I'd do the same thing in his shoes with his skill set fighting who he was fighting under the circumstances he had to take the fight too

I'm just saying as a fan and for the ufc to make the sport more visually exciting I would like them to amend the rules slightly to remove inactivity on the floor by being much more strict with as and when they stand the fight up again

Wrestlers would still get points for take downs and still be able to win fights on the ground with ground and pound or submissions but get stood up quickly when there are no significant strikes being landed and they're really just using theit weight to tire the opponent and control the fight to steal rounds and win fights

People could argue it's unfair I guess but it's not unprecedented - K1 did something very similar with the muay thai clinch for their sport because it was viewed less spectator friendly

A thai could be quickly applied and knees delivered but no sustained grappling and the ref would break the clinch quick if that occurred

I just think it would make the sport of mma a lot more exciting without removing the wrestling advantage completely

I will be honest I thought it was a pretty shit card

Having said that by the time I got home last night and turned it on it was already on the second round of the (very boring in a mayweather version of kickboxing way) Aldo/Edgar fight

So after that we had Anderson vs DC which is was one of the more boring fights I've ever actually watched all the way through and the Hunt/Lesnar fight was only remotely interesting in a sort of anticipation way as I looked on to see if Hunt could eventually land a bomb (so in hindsight that was another pretty shit and boring fight) The way Nunes destroyed Tate was quick, explosive and brutal and by far the most impressive thing I saw on the night

Shame I missed Cain ko'ing Browne in the first round - I'm sure that would have been exciting to watch and I dare say I missed more than one decent fight on the under card too

But you're right when you say it didn't really live up to the hype - in fact you're being rather kind with your understatement

Cain looked good, throwing a couple of spinning wheel kicks!

I watched the pre-lims and was impressed with Sage Northcutt. He somehow managed to escape what looked a certain arm bar submission in the second.

It was just a shame that Joe Lauzon vs Diego Sanchez was not shown as I was really looking forward to that matchup. And no surprise Lauzon won yet another fight of the night bonus.

Was a disappointing event in the end. The prelims were possibly more enjoyable than the main card. I thought Cain and Aldo both looked back to their old selves (Albeit their fights weren't great to watch). Brock looks like a guy that hasn't fought in 5 years. Silva looks like a guy that hasn't fought since he had surgery in May. Tate looked like she underestimated Nunes.

The card really suffered through the loss of the McGregor fight. The Cormier vs Jones rematch was the best they could come up with and it fell apart thanks to Jones again. The card totally lost momentum after that. Hopefully they can make up for it when they do their first New York card in MSG.

It will be interesting to see what the new company will do with it. Not a bad deal for the Fertitta brothers considering they bought it for $2m 16 years ago. Dana White stays on as a minority shareholder so seems that he will continue to work within the company. I guess he'll still play a big role in running day to day operations and then report to the new owners.

Hunt called him on it from the very beginning. UFC will become like athletics if it doesn't take action to stamp this out.

It's already deep in steroid controversy mire like athletics in my opinion

How many of the champs or top fighters before USADA tests came in are still at the top now?

So many fighters have been busted, others have shrunk in size and performance levels, others have picked up mysterious injuries and or cancelled fights to avoid having to be tested to get clean

I think it has tarnished the legacy of people who've been busted and cast serious shade over pretty much everyone else (just like what we see in athletics as you say)

I do feel like the Fertitta brothers have sold up and got out at the right time - the UFC really peaked in terms of global fan interest above and beyond their star status with the rapid rise of Rousey and McGregor

They brought Brock in to cover and ensure UFC 200 would still do big numbers (not dissimilar to Sir Alex bringing in RVP to ensure his aging and declining Man U team could still rule the land before he moved on and left someone else to rebuild again)

The UFC like post Fergie Man Utd is going to have quite a rebuilding job on it's hands under the new management - it's brightest ever stars have all pretty much crashed and burned (or about to) at the same time. Jon Jones is done for the next 2 years, Rousey is not where she was before that head kick and may not come back, Connor will really struggle with Diaz again and two straight losses has a negative impact on his marketing power (largely based on the hype job he created with his mouth) and all those (including Brock now it seems) getting busted for steroids and staining the sport and the company

The new company may be able to continue the growth of the UFC, personally I think it will level off and probably not hit the same heights as it did in 2015 but I suppose USADA and stricter punishments could clean the sport up and then new stars will be created and life will roll on

The Fertitta's did a lot more than just turn a $2m investment in to a $4 billion sale though - people forget that they had to self fund the ultimate fighter season one and pay for air time on Spike tv (only way any network would agree to air it) at a cost of $11m and at that time they'd already invested $40m (as a trading loss) in to the company to try and make it a success. They had given Dana the signal to give up and sell up for whatever he could get for the company but decided to take one more roll of the dice with TUF season one (so Bonnar and Griffen really do deserve jobs for life from Zuffa)

Be interesting to see how successful the brothers are in bringing the Raiders to Vegas and if Dana has any involvement in that or sticks to his job at the UFC under new management. As a yearly visitor to Vegas I'm pretty excited at the prospect of being able to watch a Raiders game there
