4-1 to City, so a bit of spanking again. I'm guessing though that Arsenal and Man City are a couple of the standout teams in the league?

For people more knowledgeable than me - is the realistic target to stay up and hopefully get mid table as it's our first season in the top flight?

Second season, we was midtable last season so would expect similar this season. City, Chelsea and Arsenal are the strongest teams by far. United probably next. The rest of the teams are quite level.

I still just can't take the womens seriously. Opening womens super league weekend and there's a 9-0 and a 9-1.

I just don't see it as elite. In many other sports the women are elite. Tennis, athletics etc would all see the female elite smash any male non elite player, even a top semi pro.

A semi pro mens footy team would easily compete, if not beat a pro womens team. I just think the standard is really poor.

Don't mean to offend anyone. Just my opinion
I’m sure this can be appreciate by everyone...

Watched three games so far, all very well to have one of the world's top women forwards in the team when she plays but against Everton, Arsenal and Man City creation of chances was almost zero, outpaced by those opponents in every game plus being caught in possession which led to some of the goals .
Looking forward to seeing Morgan play but who is going to create from midfield, against the lesser teams like WHU it will fine but at the moment Women's team well below standard of the top 3 or 4 teams.
Still this weekend on Saturday something to watch instead of internationals, Spurs W v Man U W on BT sport 3 at 12:30 , 6-1 again !!!

Have to agree, creativity in the team is lacking. We are well behind the top teams but I guess this is to be expected considering how late we were to the party.

Man U came into the WSL at the same time as us albeit as champions in WSL2 but they seem to have kicked on a bit better than we have.

Maybe Morgan will need to play as an attacking midfielder instead.

Morgan not even on the bench, she must be extremely unfit. Very weird she made the bench v arsenal but hasn't been seen since. Not a good start to her loan with us.

I was going to watch this as i was intrigued by Morgan, ill still watch it but she cant be THAT unfit that she hasnt got fit by now... its been a while now no?

Unless she was bought in injured.

Seems a bit of a weird one.

Fair few parallels with Bale's transfer I suppose. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait, keep in mind she did have a baby only 5 months ago. Not sure my missus had even got off the sofa at this point after having our little one...

Between injuries and pregnancy she hasn't played properly for a year. To expect her to be thrown straight in isn't realistic.

Another loss, a narrow one, but that's now 1 point from 5 games with Arsenal away next.

Quite a physical game today, the ladies certainly seemed to have more fire in the bellies. But yet again their inability to created goal chances is woeful.
This may be a controversial statement but I think some of them could do with losing a few pounds. When you compare the physiques of some of our ladies with the top 3 teams, they look a little overweight. We seem to be able to hold on for 45 minutes then the lack of fitness becomes apparent and we fall away.

Anyway, hopefully some easier fixtures (we won 4-0 midweek in the Conti Cup!) will allow us to pick up some much needed points.

In bit of a quandary today, do I watch Spurs Women play Woolwich Women on BT at 2.30 , on all previous form this is going to be another defeat which would put me in a grumpy mood for West Ham game or if Alex Morgan at last makes her debut it might be worth watching. Could be a big day Gareth & Alex both making debuts in respective teams.

Nope. Not even the slightest bit true. There are many, many examples of this across all sorts of sports.

https://www.marca.com/en/more-sports/2017/06/27/595296da468aeb99218b464c.html

The first occasion was in 1973 when Bobby Riggs took on Margaret Court when the male, at the age of 55, overcame Court in straight sets (6-2, 6-1).

That year, she was the World No. 1 and had won three major titles, with the win becoming known as the Mother's Day Massacre due to the date it took place on.

At the height of the Williams boom in 1998, an unofficial game took place in Australia after Serena and Venus claimed that no male player outside the top 200 could beat them.

Up stepped a German known as Karsten Braasch who was ranked 203rd in the world and after first beating Serena 6-1, he then disposed of Venus 6-2.

"I didn't know it would be that difficult. I played shots that would have been winners on the women's circuit and he got to them very easily," said Serena.

"They wouldn't have had a chance against anyone inside the top 500 because today I played like someone ranked 600th to keep it fun," was Braasch's assessment.

Female athletes are falling further behind males, not getting closer:

And of course there are the famous football examples:

https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/fo...se-70-to-team-of-15yearold-boys-a3257266.html

Bit of a link-fest as a reply, but it's important to not perpetuate the myth that's getting recently promoted that elite female athletes are superior to amateur male equivalents - it's not even slightly true, though it is very fashionable to suggest it. It's very common for (mostly men) these days to throw out comments about how you shouldn't say negative things about female athletes because "they'd run rings around any of us" etc, when the truth is that the very top female athletes in almost all sports, including football, would struggle to break into any level of professional male sport.

That's just a fact, born out by decades of evidence and study.

That's not to devalue women's sport - it's a highly competitive and marketable set of fields worthy of absolute respect, and female sportswomen and athletes should be treated as the stars of their game that they are. We just need to make sure we don't make incorrect comparisons in an attempt to level a playing field which is anything but. It's not just football where the gaps are, it's across all sport. I think football is one of the most obvious because of the range of athletic attributes and skills needed, the number of players, and the size of the pitch/goals.

I think if women's football was played on slightly smaller pitches with slightly smaller goals, it could be a much more exciting game.

I'm watching it , 3-0 down , it's not fun, no pace, no anticipation , trying to play through midfield , they would be better going long in the old Wimbledon style , when you have players of lower ability than your opponents then try something different.

The problem is we have our best players all in the same position.
Gemma Davison, Rachel Williams and eventually when Alex Morgan plays will all be forwards and the former two will struggle in any other position. Instead the manager (who's done a relatively good job) wants to experiment and play players out of position. Williams should be playing.

Our women's team is currently like Man Utd mens, lots of attacking potential but not a lot of defensive stability (without the forward line pace)

Not sure Spurs team are even schoolboy level, doubt having Morgan in the team will make up for terrible static defending.
Goalkeeping is always a problem you don't get may 6 foot plus goalkeepers in women's football.
