Regardless of my personal feelings on vaccination, this has been handled like a third world country.
Either he has a valid visa or he doesn't.
You cant issue the visa then change your mind.
I used to work in some capacity for this department and it really is a joke.
They change their minds like they change their clothes.
As the Judge said, "what more could the man do?"
Disgraceful.
You’ve changed your tune quickly.

He is almost certainly anti-vax. Not in the sense that he thinks vaccines shouldn't exist, or they are all bad, but in his own personal belief that he feels he doesn't need them. Even that statement you have provided, which would have been pre-prepared by his PR team he doesn't state, "I have had vaccine x,y,z in the past". He is very careful with his language, but the gist of it is "I don't take them because I don't want to, but I have no problem with other people taking them if they want, because I am sure they do some good".

The problem with this, is two-fold. COVID is a public health issue and despite what you said in your first paragraph, the current evidence from various studies infers that people who are vaccinated are less likely to transmit the virus. Yes, it won't stop someone catching it, but because the body can quickly respond to the virus and kill it before it has a chance to replicate significantly, the chances of transmission are lowered. It is therefore everyone's responsibility to get vaccinated if there is no medical reason not to be.

He is also a very prominent figure that many people (for whatever reason) look up to and admire. They will therefore say to themselves, "if Novak doesn't take the vaccine, then I won't either". It's a sad indictment of society, but it is what it is. Like you say, that might be fine for someone like Novak who is a professional athlete in prime condition, but others may not be so lucky. It's also rather fool-hardy considering the number of deaths COVID has caused with other individuals in seemingly peak physical condition

With regards to your last sentence, yes I will absolutely use the personal beliefs of someone to determine if they are worth listening to when it comes to medical/science issues. It tells me that they are unlikely to consider scientific facts. People can believe what they want to believe, however ridiculous the claim, but I will quite happily think they are looney for having those beliefs

Novak has a choice and he has chosen not to get vaccinated, which is fine. But that decision has consequences

Claiming that getting vaccinated is a responsibility opens the door for punishing people who won't meet said responsibility. Given the very unethical nature of coercing/forcing people into getting any foreigner substances into their own bodies, I would probably stay clear from making any such claims. I think all that accomplishes is pissing off those of us with a bit of a rebellious nature.

I don't think Nole refusing or not wanting to take any vaccines necessarily makes him an "anti-vax" (I think that would depend more on his reasoning, or on whether he decided to get his children vaccinated or not), but we're probably just arguing over semantics here. At the end of the day, he isn't out there campaigning against vaccines or trying to get others not to get vaccinated, and given that he most likely already has natural t-cell immunity (look at me, speaking as if I actually know what t-cells are :D), I think it's malicious to have this narrative against him of him being a looney or whatever.

And to close, I think your stance against the personal beliefs of others is fair enough, but at the same time I can confirm you that a lot of intelligent or bright people working in scientific fields have a few interesting beliefs themselves (some of them are even fully pro-vaccine top cardiologists working for major pharmaceutical companies, like my older brother). But well, to each their own.

Sorry for the late reply btw.

I mean, he flew from Marbella to Melbourne, didn't he? So that information was likely in that form already. I did some transatlantic flying during the months of October and November, and in all of those covid forms I was obliged to state were I was flying from.

This entire saga is a complete and utter mess.

absolutely no one involved comes out in a good light. I really want to just say f-ck Novak but he’s far from the only contributor to this.

It’s the kind of balls up you’d expect when your prime minister shit his pants in an Engadine McDonald’s in 1997.

Anybody know where I can find the tennis on UK tv?

Tried prime but they only appear to have the WTA @ Sydney and not the ATP.

Fancied watching the Murray match but can’t find it anywhere

On Eurosport 2 (ch 411)

And on another note Djokovic has now admitted breaking isolation in Serbia, and also making a false declaration on his entry forms to Australia,
Really cannot see how he will be allowed to play.

I had some sympathy for him before these revelations came to light. I now hope he’s deported for deliberately putting other people at risk and lying on his immigration form.

Thanks, tried that but was only showing the Adelaide tournament rather than the Sydney one.

I don't think the Sydney one is on anywhere. At least, I couldn't find it.

But Murray's just lost the first set on a tie-break.

You've got to lol at him coming out to correct the 'misinformation' around him and then confirming that he submitted an immigration form with errors and also confirming he knowingly attended an event while covid positive.

Thanks for clearing that up

He flew via Dubai, not sure if that was from Marbella or Serbia. But he has admitted not disclosing that he travelled to Spain.

I still don't believe that he ever tested positive in December. It's just easier to say that he had it and didn't isolate, than to admit that he was using falsified documents to enter Australia.

As a side note I don't get how having had the virus gives you an exemption. Surely it depends on the strain. I had Delta a few months back but it didn't stop me getting Omicron over Xmas.

Great win for Murray, just what he needed ahead of the Aussie. Beating the #2 seed in 3hrs shows that he is clawing his way back to mixing it with the top players.

Don’t think he’ll ever be fully back to his old levels but would love to see him get a decent draw and sneak into the 2nd week of the Aussie Open

I may have to put money on his early opponents, just to make sure he wins!
