Which of their signings last summer has played better than our starters ?
Why are we only judging the players LFC signed last summer with our first team? How about judging the lot of them since Klopp took over & he received full backing from his board. They’ve delivered him his first choice signings & pretty much all of them have been better than our strongest players this season.

I don't think that's true.

Clément Lenglet, Fabián Ruiz, Malcom, Álex Grimaldo, Houssem Aouar, Mahmoud Dahoud, Diogo Jota, James Maddison all very good young players yet to appear for their national team.

Also Joachim Andersen is 22.

The majority of those players are from countries with strong national teams, I am not sure I would put Denmark in that category.
Kjaer and Christensen are ok but you would think a 22/23 yr old that was ready for the EPL would have managed a handful of opportunities at least. This has a bit of a Kevin Wimmer feel to it for me.
We already have Foyth and Sanchez as young CBs with potential, I think for a Toby replacement it needs to be someone who is established and ready to slot straight in. Even if that person is the wrong side of 30.

For the record, LFC signed Robertson from Hull when they were relegated, and although he wasn't terrible for Hull, he didn't make any huge impact. He's now arguably the best left back in the world.

Had we made that signing in the summer of 2017, our fans would have been moaning about our "lack of ambition". There ARE gems in these teams that go down. Sessegnon is one of them.

To insular if you believe Robertson is the best Left Back in the world.

Allison has clearly had a better season than Lloris. Most of their fans think Fabinho is their best holding mid.
Alison has been better than Lloris. Also you very selectively choose last summer rather than going back to last Jan when they signed VdV.

The reason i chose last season only is because the poster said we should be bold like Liverpool were LAST SEASON. It was there in my reply for all to see.

The reason I think it’s important Is because Liverpool spent €180m on players for this season. That’s a lot of money. They clearly improved their Gk. Thats a great buy for them (although I don’t accept he’s clearly superior to Lloris, who plays in front of a statistically more porous defence).

But beyond that they’ve spent far too much on their midfielders. Keita has been worse than Sissoko or winks who combined cost half what he did. Fabinho I would take but has he had a better season than Sissoko? No. He’s only started half of Liverpool’s games.

Might Keita and Fabinho come good and establish themselves as leading PL midfielders? Maybe? Probably? Either way we could spend over €100m on central midfielders in the summer and see only incremental improvement next year.

Not quite what we imagine when we talk about being bold...

He did say arguably, and I don't think he is far off in his opinion. Yes he might not be Marcelo, but the kid is class. Stats wise he has got to be in the top 5/10 left backs in the world for this season.

We had scouts at Benfica game if not mentioned.

Surely that means we are having a look at Grimaldo, he is the only one I think we would be after in their squad. The other good players are earmarked for bigger clubs like Felix.

:sleep:3 despite of the price tag having a 22 number in it. Not only that, if buy the same "thing" later but then the price is £23,1 and you'll still claim it was £22...
Besides, I said that at 23 he's still not an international - and I am right about that, since Danmark won't play any games until June 7th; which will be after his 23rd birthday :whistle:

I am getting so much loving remarks from @Spurrific now days! Not sure if I can take it :smug: But whatever makes you happy, mate

Yes, he's 22, 9 years old to be exact.
If you buy thing costing £22,9 you're one of many on SC who still believe the cost is £22....while some will say it cost is £23 despite of the price tag having a 22 number in it. Not only that, if buy the same "thing" later but then the price is £23,1 and you'll still claim it was £22...

Can we just end this argument, it's ruining this thread

There were a few on SC I remember - me included  (but I had not seen nearly enough of him to insist) - who brought up his name. van Dijk and Salah were both also mentioned a lot while they both were still very affordable.
Of course, retrospection is a wonderful thing, but when so many brought up their names it's not just name rambling and co-incidents...

If he isn’t Marcelo then he isn't the best Left Back in the world is he.
