Big night ahead for a lot of QB needy teams. Who takes McCarthy and where is going to have a big ripple effect on the rest of the first round. As a Vikings fan I can’t remember feeling this nervous ahead of a draft, but my optimism about trading up to 3 to take Maye is waning. I still think a trade back is the smart play by the Pats though - that roster needs other pieces otherwise I can see a rookie QB going there and having no chance to succeed in Year 1, a la Bryce Young in Carolina.

Could feasibly be 6 QB's taken by 13 (us).

Unfortunately Vikings well positioned to trump whatever offer we can make to jump up should a Daniels or Maye fall but clearly the dream for the Raiders would be Daniels reuniting with Antonio Pierce.

Interesting to see what we do with the 9th pick, ideally we need to trade back and get a couple more picks as we only have 4 picks overall.

But if some of the top WRs are still available I wouldn’t be surprised if we took one.

As a Chargers fan I’m hoping someone gives a kings ransom to Arizona to get McCarthy, and we sneak MHJ. Think they’ll likely stay put and we trade back.

Nabers or Odunze are far from consolation prizes if choosing a WR is the order of the day nor would going for Bowers who would be a great addition for the Chargers.

From the other side of things, as a Patriots fan, if we were to trade the #3 pick to the Vikings for anything less than an absolutely mind-blowing Hershel Walker-esque trade.....i would be absolutely furious.

Here is my last attempt at a mock draft for tonight. I have the Chargers moving all over the board to take advantage of other teams’ needs (Vikings: QB, Bears: more picks, Bills: WR).

I’m confident on picks 1 & 2 at least!

Not making a Walker esque trade for QB3.

Agreed.

But since it appears that Bob Kraft's idiot son may be involved in the draft decisions i have a sinking feeling that this may result in my decent into irreversible madness....

Looks pretty reasonable that (and i've done and read plenty!).

All said and done, I do wonder whether we get a QB (or two) that slides out of the 1st round much like Levis last year.

Bronco's have considerable need across the board but admittedly Payton surely won't be relying on just Wilson and Stidham for the season and for us, I can't help but feel that a RT is the better option with us then looking to trade up for Penix.

As always, it'll be fascinating to see how it all finally unfolds tonight as i've done many mental gymnastics over mock drafts that my brain could do with a well earned rest!

I watch Pro Footbal Talk and Mike Florio is a Vikes fan and has been saying for weeks that there is the potential that they trade Jefferson as part of the deal to get their franchise QB. There's been little talk about a new deal for him.

If they want to throw in arguably one of the best WR in football along with a couple picks....pull the trigger. That would be a wild overpay.

But, i don't think there is a real chance that they would do that. The Vikes need a QB who can play quickly as they have (including Jefferson) a roster that is much closer to being very competitive than the other teams that need a QB.

From my perspective the Pats will have a very good defense (again) and really need to address 3 slots...QB, LT and WR.

Problem is that getting an elite QB or LT is VERY hard unless you have a higher pick. They are currently in a position to get one of the better QBs (or at least one that is perceived to have a very high upside) in a draft that is deep at OT and WR but is also considered to have only 10-12 "Blue Chip" players. (meaning trading down likely means you miss one of the blue chips at a position you actually need).

Next years draft looks like a draft where the top QBs (Shaduer Sanders, Drew Allar, Carson Beck and Quinn Ewers) don't look as strong as the top for QBs in this draft, the OT position has a monster (Campbell from LSU) who may be the #1 pick overall and then quickly falls off, and nowhere close to as strong a group of WR (though i like the kid from Mizzou). So picking up an extra 1st next year still leaves you chasing a "blue chip" player at the same exact 3 slots you need to address this year but with a lesser (as it appears now) draft class for those positions.

Smart move is to stay put and address one of the positional needs with a potential blue chip prospect right now unless the Vikings (or Raiders, Giants, Broncos) give you a completely unhinged offer for your pick.

Penix Jr. to ATL was not something i was expecting....

Cousins to tutor Penix for a couple years isn't the worst idea. Would have thought that they would go defense but Penix seems to be in conversation of best potential QB in draft if he can stay healthy....

Cousins is there 4 years. They can’t trade him on that contract. Penix will also be there 4 years. Falcons had a window with Cousins. And threw it away in a matter of a few months. Didn’t even tell Kirk. A ridiculously horrible move. Penix isn’t even that good. And he is 24. Whoever is responsible for that pick should be fired tonight. One of the worst picks I can remember. A F on that pick is generous & it’s the worst grade you can get. I can’t stop laughing. What idiots.

It's an insane pick unless he turns into Rodgers behind Favre. But like you said he's already 24 and you're going to lose the rookie contract on the bench.

If KOC can get any decent production out of McCarthy/Darnold this year then the NFC North is going to be incredibly competitive.

Delighted with the first round from the Vikings. The price to move up from 11 to 10 was a little high but I think the drop off from McCarthy to Nix is big enough to merit that trade and warding off the Broncos and Raiders.

Didn’t see the 2nd trade up coming but completing the revamp on the pass rush with a guy many people projected to go in the top 10 as the first defensive player off the board helps the front 7 massively. Our lack of remaining picks means there will be a couple of needs not filled but the team got better on Thursday.

N.B. Would have loved to see Kirk Cousins’ reaction to the call he got from the Falcons right before they took Penix.
