We were the first football club to sell our souls to the devil. “There used to be a football club over there”
Bet you can't tell me who said that.

Morning.. pinch of salt time.. I work in travel and was just speaking to our Qatar account rep..was joking about naming rights and she smiled and said wait for an announcement on the 7th March at a big travel event in Berlin..could be just a wind up but thought worth sharing as known her for years and never normally one to wind me up.

I still think that WC will be moved to either Australia, the states or EnglandMaybe we are the insurance policy where we get to host some of the World Cup games when the Qatari winter proves too hot

Germany and Spain would also be options. Possibly France as well.If it does get moved I think it will be to England. Australia is a nightmare because of the kick-off times - every reasonable time ends up being in the middle of the night or early morning in Europe, and most of them nighttimes in North America too, it'd kill the value of the TV rights. The USA was meant to be the leading contender for 2026 (jointly with Canada and Mexico), but that seems to have hit problems with FIFA - Morocco is making moves and the orange imbecile in the White House probably ain't the figurehead for FIFA's PR revival - either they do want the US in which case they'll win 2026 on their own merits, or they don't in which case they won't want to give them 2022 either. England meanwhile could host at quite short notice and importantly seems to have UEFA support - they've given England (and the rest of the UK) way above their share of European finals, not to mention the semi finals and finals of Euro 2020, and then thrown in a pack of group stage and knockout games too after Belgium had to withdraw. Not to mention that I expect after this year there won't be much appetite to wait until 2030 for a World Cup which is really in Europe (sorry Putin!) having not had one since 2006.
Yep, reason I reckon England is because they seem to have UEFA backing, which renders any other European bid unviable. They already seem to be backing an English or British (+Irish?) bid for 2030 with rather a lack of subtlety.Germany and Spain would also be options. Possibly France as well.
I stand corrected sir, Always attributed it to good old KeithNope. It was actually a journalist (ken jones) that said it and burkinshaw nodded in agreement. It was a twist on an old sinatra song "there used to be a ball park".

A $200 million naming rights deal from HP would be the exact same as a $200 million naming rights deal from Qatari Airways.Really, really hope it is Qatar Airways. We need to get to the next level and that aint happening with HP. Do we want to compete with Man City or just the top 4?
Some of the comments are ridiculous from the over-righteous .

This isn't an ownership thing.

True, there were some very early games in the Japan/South Korea tournament - 7.30AM for instance in the UK, but the bigger games tended to be later for that reason at 12.30PM. People were at the least awake and often able to have it on in the background. Despite that and the fact those times would've been an hour later in e.g. France, Germany and Italy, the viewing figures in Europe fell by over a third from the previous tournament. It obviously had the advantage of increasing revenues and exposure substantially in Asia, which was a growing market, which wouldn't happen with Australia. It'd also massively hurt the NA market which is much bigger now than it was in 2002. There would be very little upside to it and it the absolute last thing FIFA would need at a time when their brand and the reputation of the World Cup was at greater risk than ever before. In that situation you want a tournament where you can guarantee at least good to decent TV audiences, visible excitement in the host country, and a lot of travelling fans.Maybe the Qatari's cash has a little bit of petroleum dripping from it.
It's the same as if it was in Japan/Korea. It won't be in Europe for back to back world cups. It's call the World Cup for a reason. It has to travel the world. U guys finally have a chance to understand what's it's like waking up at 2.45am/3.45am WEEKLY to watch any mid week matches.
What happened to the HSBC rumour ??
Had a letter today from MBNA regarding my credit card, saying partnership with Spurs ends 31st May...
To me, that would tie in with naming rights being bank related.
MBNA seem to be ending partnerships with other companies too including Virgin Atlantic.
Have a look at the Berkshire website, they don't care about brand exposureThis is exactly the time to accept less, on grounds of morality, in my opinion.
HP, HP, HP.
Beautiful shirt colour if they double dip sponsor...
How about Berkshire Hathaway? Warren Buffet said Trumps Corp Tax rate cut just made them $20B, could throw a couple our way for the Berkshire Hathaway Stadium. Would make me a little less sick feeling...
