You win some you lose some, maybe he should have started Toby, easy to say now we lost, on Wednesday he got criticism for not starting Eriksen and turned out the right decision because we won.
Still don’t want to swap him for another
That bloody blue suit!!! He looks damn good in it though.Porch was at fault today and I hate it when he wears the dark blue suit.
I think he and verts play well together, I get what your saying but I think in this game it would have mattered.
Then when they come to WHL they do the opposite and crumble. But we always lose there in that manner.
They get mad up for it, their cup final, go bezerk at us and we get overwhelmed.
Their players get 100% ability boost from the shock of hearing their fans actually make some noise once a season.
We will never know but I don't think the reason we lost the game was because we played foyth instead of Alderweireld. Dier, Vertonghen and Lloris also made mistakes which cost us goals.
Annoyingly André Gomes, a player everyone wrote off in the summer as not good enough for us, is looking good again today.
Would’ve been just the player we needed in the middle.
Yes, yes, and yes.... But that's the whole friggin point, we looked so unstable as a unit, had Toby played I really doubt we would of looked as all over the place.
I read fucking posts on here where people said he wouldn't be better than Sissoko... And this was in the summer before Sissokos recent good patch.Agree, he's been absolutely fucking quality. Tenacious, vision with his passing, grabbing the game by the scruff at a tough place like Anfield... So impressed.

Was vehemently against him signing with us this summer. This was not what I wanted to hear right now

Why? We played the same team against Chelsea except for Vertonghen coming in for Alderweireld. If anything, you could argue Vertonghen coming back into the team made us look a bit weaker.
Because we were at home against Chelsea and we got away with a clear penalty as well. But at home, its always easier to set the tempo, away from home to a rival its about how you combat their tempo.
Starting the best CB pairing in the league gives you a much better chance of doing that, where you need to be disciplined and compact as a unit.
Not starting an inexperienced, albeit talented, youngster who's already shown a propensity for rash challenges and taking risks.
It's really not fucking difficult to understand.
He really has.It was the best centre back partnership in 15/16 and 16/17 but is it now? Alderweireld has done fairly well this year but he hasn't been imperious and Vertonghen was the one who gave a needless penalty away and got sent off. You can set the team up how you want but if your experienced players make stupid mistakes then there isn't much you can do.
He really has.
