Yes. That’s how cup competitions work. It’s not just about a talented team on paper, it’s in the head too that forms “good enough”. Just as the Harlem Globetrotters wouldn’t win the NBA.
And we comprehensively fail again and again whenever, as you say, we meet decent competition in high pressure environments. Same in Europe too - or in the case of Gent, they don’t even have to be very good, just competent.
Similarly you weren’t good enough to win the league if you don’t win it.
It’s a real denial defence to constantly say we’re good enough when we fail. We need to own failure and admit we weren’t good enough, must try harder.
Learning is good, nothing to be afraid of.
That one line captured the whole ethos required...."We need to own failure"....don't dismiss it but learn from it...feel the pain it causes and resolve to not feel it again...accept that failure exists but strive to ensure its avoided and not welcomed with a shrug of the shoulders.....
