Imagine if we went out and spent 40-50 mil on 2-3 players to come in and rotate only for DV's position at Fiorentina becomes untenable(looking more likely by the day) only for us not to have enough money to move for him? Could you imagine how SC would respond? The scenes in here from those same posters whining and crying because we've yet to tie a player up would be on another scale altogether.

All hypothetical of course but none the less........

Well, its not hard to imagine how this plays out - Spurs keep their powder dry, waiting on DV. DV drags until end of window, decides to stay, and then Spurs out of time for alternatives. Really a no-win situation, as long as we are not willing to pay over the odds for a player. (Not saying that we should)

Have you got names?

my lad has been called into first team training at Reading over last few weeks, so knows them all pretty well!

some good talent in the younger teams too
I'm from the area and have mates in the youth teams, their academy is very very good. Reading scouts at nearly every game I played at youth level. Not youth but John Swift is out of contract in the summer and he is class - one of the best players in the championship imo

I’d also assume we’d think Adama would be something we could complete on deadline day if other avenues didn’t pan out, so it’s less urgent, to a degree.

So we wont strengthen areas needed in the hope we have enough available for Vlahovic late on?

Lovely.

Hypothetical of course.
Every window we see these pie-in-the-sky scenario's come out of the hierarchy (passed on in good faith I'm sure), whereby a lot of pieces of various puzzles fall our way and we suddenly have a clear run to some prized asset at a knock-down price...

Of course I'm hoping against hope like everyone else, but these dream scenarios never pan out. If we want Dusan Vlahovic here at the club we go to Fiorentina, pay the asking price, offer him a fat contract and pray that he'll choose us over other, better positioned clubs. That's the only way this would come off.
And if we're not willing to do that, we better shift our focus straight away.

If anyone at Spurs/Conte thinks we can improve the squad to a CL one, without spending 150 to 200 mill (i am not saying NET) they are dreaming
Of course but again it's always been about being ready for next season not February the 1st. I know some fans don't like this, but the window is difficult and we need to bring in 5-6 minimum in total. I get what people are saying about the importance of finishing top 4 this season, but it's not the priority being set for the start of next season is.

Not that that means we won't be trying to get top 4 this season before the "between the liners" jump in.

Maybe we'll act once Vlahovic decides that he is prepared to leave this window.

I thought so far, all the indications were that he'd see the season out with Fiorentina.

I see this case aswell, but Top 4 is up for grabs here and I think we would massively regret it in the hope we achieve it next season when United will spend yet again, gooners seem to have funds and are improving, West Ham look to be in and around there. Even Villa look like pushing on. I could grin and bear it if we were mid table, miles off top 4....but not being bold and daring to spend in Jan and not getting 4th would be a massive regret. I feel its well worth a gamble.

All of that is irrelevant. New manager, new DOF.

Going back 10 years to prove a point that has no bearing on the new regime is pretty pointless tbh. This is Partici's first January window(and we already have the gem that is Romero), and Conte's first window altogether. Judging them on what happened under Damien Comolli for example is ridiculous.

I know the come back will be "well it's still Daniel Levy", and my reply to that would be he's not going to have given the job to Conte, just to fuck him about 2 months later. He knows as well as everyone else how Conte operates.
No I totally agree with you its a whole new set up so give it a chance 100%.

The comment was never meant to be a Levy bash, he has faults but he has gone out and appointed one of the best managers in the world and built one of the best training complexes and stadiums in the world for us to compete in. Just need the last bit now the team to do it......

Was just clarifying what you asked me to.

Historically we have not backed the manager with their first choice targets and now we need to more than ever.

Nope I asked you to clarify what you meant by "always". The clarification you gave was that it sometimes happens and sometimes doesn't.

prob is if we need 5-6 new first teamers brought in in the summer, we know it wont be at the start of the summer and no doubt some will drag on all summer, Conte will need the players to learn his system in the preseason early as poss as half the current team wont be in the first team (hopefully) seems alot to happen in one summer to be competitive at the top against city pool and chelsea etc

Spot on, and the club cant help themselves but drag it out to save a few quid making some of Conte's pre season utterly pointless.

Can we let this window finish before we start getting depressed about the next one please ?

My come back is always I don’t trust Levy anymore, but respect I do believe what your saying and we have to judge things on the way it is now not the past. It’s just particularly hard given the real mess I think Levy has overseen since the Champions League final.
