We had a 2nd and 3rd finish - runners up in the league and CL final, plus the League Cup one a few years ago. Growing to be finalists and runners up is building sustainable success - or at least when you can do it regularly, which we were getting to that point.
I understand where your going with it and yes we could look at the angle of we were in and around it, but excuse my bluntness we won fuck all and were constantly nearly men.
The facilities at Tottenham are without doubt class leading but on the pitch the club has consistently failed to deliver for decades it can't be ignored much longer.
The club currently are sliding backwards albeit maybe temporarily but to the wider audience what is the point of showing about how good the trappings are when the foundations are built on sand.

Prediction short term

Mourinho will be gone by mid march
Caretaker in and then we will start again in the summer.

About 70 million net spend. Be about 4th next season.

Longterm

Enic sell up we get an investment firm owning us who pay for it by leveraging the debt against the club.

Similar transfer strategy. Same old arguments.

Well Boris is laying out his 'roadmap' out of Covid restrictions in the next week, or so.

That will be important for sports stadiums filling up again and as such, important for us.

I think in the next 24 months we'll see increased revenue again and probably an uptick in the club's activities and performances.

But in my opinion, we still have issues with direction, philosophy, management and recruitment.

These problems aren't that difficult to solve tbh, especially with our resources (7th richest club in the world?). Levy needs to hand over the footballing side of things to someone else though.

The last 10/15 years would have been so interesting if Chelsea and Man City didn’t win the lottery. I honestly believe we would have won the league at least once and be CL regulars. Transfer fees might actually still be sensible as well.

What do others feel about this.

Our future-whats in name.

Just throwing this out there- what about a name change-dropping the Hotspur...

Would it make a difference?

Just be called Tottenham.

Hotspur is a beautiful bit of heritage that is also a brand differentiator compared to other clubs. Drop the Hotspur and we're no longer Spurs. We'd be stupid to drop it.

Can't see Mourinho being sacked this season. If hes replaced, it will be in the summer.

I also don't see ENIC selling, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, there are very few buyers prepared to meet their valuation, and secondly i think they will want to maximise the assets for a bit longer.

Our future hinges not so much on a sale of the club as a change of the way we operate. At this point every single decision is made by one man and one man only. Short-term focus rules everything - there is no long term vision or approach to squad building or scouting. Levy is basically just chancing from one perceived bargain to the next.
For us to truly progress, Levy has to bring in a DoF and hand over the reigns as far as football matters are concerned. Because after 20 years at the helm, he still shows no signs whatever of developing a real understanding of the footballing side of the business. Take a leaf out of the book of Fenway, Farad Moshiri or the Leicester owners, and leave footballing matters to the professionals.

I agree I put the enic thing longterm.

The West ham result will go a long way to seeing if my first prediction is true.

I still think Mourinho is safe for now, irrespective of West Ham result. If we get battered 5-0, then this may accelerate his departure.

Sanchez
Sissoko
Winks

Realistically all have got to go. We need a new CB and CM to replace them (and Skipp to return). But who is going to be buying this summer? There’s no money in the game.

Personally I’d call time on Doherty, Aurier and Lamela too.

I would say the following players aren't good enough if we want to be taken seriously:
  • Dier
  • Sissoko
  • Sanchez
  • Davies
  • Doherty
  • Aurier
  • Winks
  • Lamela
  • Bergwijn
  • Moura
There is massive surgery needed to get the squad back competing. My biggest fear of getting a new manager is that some of the shit listed above get a clean slate again.

I said it in another thread, but if Sanchez bulked up (stone to a stone and a half of muscle), he could be a decent defender.

His main weakness is getting bullied by attackers; even attackers that are 5 inches shorter than him.

A whole lot of shit needs rebuilding, we are basically back to square one like when Poch first came in. Will take years to be settled

It might take a while to build a title challenging squad, but top 4 or top 6 isn't necessarily that far away imo.

A GK, CB, CM and left or right sided attacker, would put us back in the mix.

And then we have players who could/should offer more and get more chances; Alli, Bale, GLC.

Even just buying a GK a CB in the summer would see a big difference.

There's a lot right with our club, which makes the things we get wrong even more frustrating.

Dare I say it but failure to qualify for Europe for 1 season may not be a bad thing, especially with the euros taking place in the summer leaving next to no time for a preseason. The amount of games we've already played this season has been ridiculous and a season of just league games with a smattering of cup games could work in our favour.

I feel like no other manager will be as good as Poch. Our work ethic, style of play and steam rolling the opposition

Where is the youth thread? Any good lads coming through?
