I mean his age is literally the only negative. I realize that reason is also the only way we can get a player of his calibre but it is a genuine concern that our CBs should Jan go down would be 22 years old and 19 years old.
Agree but also have eric if needed

Didnt we sign him last August ?

"signing one of the most promising...."

But yes, we did sign ONE OF the most promising young centre-backs last summer. Sounds like we have the chance to do the same this summer...Which will be much needed if we lose Toby's quality...

If we get De Ligt before his 19th birthday in August does that mean he will count as club trained in 3 years time? Or would he just miss out. If yes then it's very clever business.

On aside note, what does that mean for Foyth? Can't believe he would be happy if he stays as 5 choice behind Ligt.

I think the writing is on the wall that Poch's preferred setup is a three at the back model. In his second season we saw Dier drop back from CM to form a three at the back a great deal as the WB's bombed forward. Then last year we were 3 at the back the majority of the time. This year our personnel hasn't allowed us to do so IMO, but with the idea of WB's coming in, we could move back to a 3 at the back which would mean a lineup of Jan, Sanchez, Dier, Foyth, De Ligt would all have chances to play.

I could see our PL and CL games being a three of Jan, Sanchez, Dier and our cup games being a Foyth, Dier, De Ligt combo.

But if I am spending $40 or whatever the price tag may be, I am not spending it on a CB no matter the projected greatness De Ligt has. I think we are strong at the back with the four of: Jan, Dier, Sanchez, Foyth and the youth we have in the ranks and CCV in a pinch.

We should be focusing on our WB and CM situation.
Highly CONFIDENTIAL!!!

Spoke direct to Ligit, and just received this text ‘I’m too ligit, too ligit to quit’???

Seriously though; CCV is nowhere near good enough. Foyth is coming along nicely. If we can get Ligit, we would be mad not to. Guy is top quality, andcwat ahead of his time.

I’m on my mobile at the moment but as soon as I get back, I’ll see to those who think this is the fucking formations discussion thread.

How the FUCK you manage to draw consecutive breaths without referring to a manual is baffling. Plankton would whip your arseholes sore in an IQ test.

Is there a new warning system in place now? Rob was looking at doing something to highlight posts that broke the rules.

Not in europe he wouldn't.. he's already counted as homegrown at Ajax in European competition..

Toby to Barca would be the best outcome in my opinion! He deserves the move and hope he will succeed there.

Takes the pressure off the Barca links for de Ligt, and opens the door for him to come to us.

Sanchez, Jan and de Ligt with Dier available too would be great! Either keep Foyth around for cup games or maybe get him a loan to a promoted side, Wolves or maybe Fulham if they come up would do nicely. Sell CCV.

Great sides are built on formidable CB partnerships, Sanchez and de Ligt could be that.

I guess it’s been on the cards, but very sad to have ITK now all but confirming that Toby is off.

He’s a top player and has played a pivotal role in pushing us up an extra level.

I do like the idea of De Ligt coming in though. He is the best CB prospect in Europe.

Not really too happy about Toby to Barcelona... hopefully we get decent money. But on the other hand... most likely a replacement for TT who is linked to man u. So technically we are strengthening one of our main rivals.

If we have any chance in hell of signing De Light we need to just do it.

The man is an animal, remember watching a young toby and jan at ajax and Jan always stood out as hell of a player but De light looks x2 as good as Jan did!

He might look better at the same age. Is it not fair to say though the standard of the Dutch league in general, gets weaker every year?

I think the better comparison would be with Sanchez - thought De Ligt looked at the very least on the same level as him when they played together last season. De Ligt was only 17 at the time...

Very tough league to gauge IMO. We've had some gems such as Eriksen and Vertonghen, Sanchez looks like he could evolve into an exceptional CB.

Then...Janssen.

De Ligt does look like he has all the attributes Poch wants in his CBs, and all those big clubs interested, they must rate him. I'm all for it if we can get it done.

Yeah, I haven't seen enough of him to have an opinion tbh. My only concern in is signing him is what happens to Foyth. If Toby leaves and he's pushed back for a kid younger than him I can see him wanting out.

100% agree on Foyth would maybe seek an exit if 5th choice. I've thought Foyth has looked quite assured the limited times I've seen him in a Spurs shirt.

Harsh maybe, but if we sign de Ligt and he is a massive upgrade on whomever, I have to say I'm down with that. I want the best we can afford and not just the first X1.

No emotional attachment, if we want the best, there will be culls along the way.
