I feel like this is turning into a transfer window I've played on Football Manager. IT'S BEEN THAT GOOD!!!
Yet on deadline day: "Real Madrid bid £100m for Gareth Bale. The board feel such an offer is too good to refuse and have accepted it on your behalf."

I think you are underestimating Holtby, Siggy and Cahdli as well as underestimating the creative potential of Dembele tbf Besides we are rumored to be in for Eriksen :)

I disagree mate. Neither Sigurdsson or Dembele are creative enough, and in the case of Sigurdsson I don't think he's good enough to be more than a squad player at best. Holtby just seems too slow, I just don't understand why people are raving about this guy. I'll hold up my hands if he proves me wrong, and I hope he does, but he's shown nothing bar a fantastic touch in his debut (I think it was) that led to a goal. All three of them were here last season (Holtby only since Jan), when we looked completely devoid of creativity and out of ideas in nearly every home match.

Eriksen I've never understood the hype around, has been bog ordinary every time I've seen him for both Ajax and the Danish NT.

Chadli I've liked the few times I've seen Twente, but he didn't stand out as particularly creative in the same sense of say Mata or Silva. That's what we need, not averagely creative players.

Sorry for sounding so negative, but I'm pissed this wasn't addressed last summer, in Jan and now it seems to be skipped again.

Our creativity problems last year weren't down to lacking a playmaker, it was that we were a team in transition, with AVB trying to introduce a more possession based game. It takes time to instigate, and at times we were simply moving the ball too slowly, with not enough movement off the ball.

Controversial but true. I agree at least. But I think dembele certainly has it in his locker if we can get him further up the pitch to become a danger. For me he comes deep as we don't have that playmaker in the middle. Anyways....

Even when we had Modric and VDV we had troubles breaking teams that sit deep. If you move the ball quick enough you don't really need Modric-type player in your team. Just guys that are comfortable enough with the ball and move it quickly. Great striker helps too.

That said I would still prefer having some creative midfielder in our team but transfer window is still open and we'll bring more players to the team.

Players that are comfortable on the ball and move it quickly ARE Modric-type players!

Well, I clearly disagree with you. I always keep hearing some of fans moaning when Chelsea and Arsenal have bad days against poor teams but still manage to scrap a win. Usually it's because one of their creative players have found the key to unlock the defence. It's not luck or coincidence.

We were a possession side under Harry. According to some stats I read we had 4% less possession last season than under Harry's last season and made 3000 less passes. And that's what I could see with my eyes all last season too, we looked like a great counter-attacking team, not good at possession but I didn't expect that either after the sale of Modric and VdV, who were integral to play that way.

If AVB wants to have more possession, he needs technical, creative players to keep the ball moving intelligently.

If only there were a place to discuss opinions on the creativity of our squad.

That was rather snide of me. I apologize. But the reason for doing it was because this discussion isn't heading in a good direction and my hope is that you guys give up before some of big boys take notice and get mad at you.

Modric-type players are players who control the tempo and send long, usually diagonal, passes.
Dembele, Paulinho, Capoue etc can't pass like him but have other qualities and can also move the ball quickly enough and rarely lose it.

For me a part of the reason that we seemed so inept at breaking teams down is also that ever since Bale moved inside we have lacked quality on our wings. Lennon is pretty lousy against teams parking the bus and whoever played on the left just wasnt suited for that role. Hopefully this season we will see Bale bossing on the right and Chadders bossing on the left. With the entire attack interchanging a bit ofc.

EDIT: SORRY for going OT!!!

Just a quick update. We was meant to have a match today vs Enfield Town behind closed doors. It's been moved to tomorrow.

Unfortunately it's on the old site and not this one. But this one predates the discussion that took place around the time of Sandro.
But I did find that it definitely wasn't Joey.

I first watched Capoue and spoke about him on here in 2009. One of the early conversations (2010) was with Joey55, he had watched Sandro and I had watched Capoue, and we were comparing notes, most recent post of note was in page 2 of the Capoue thread or second post on this list:

avb wants us to overrun and overpower the opposition, we're not going to see an influx of diminutive creative types anytime soon.
