I actually feel he was, rather than is, a world class striker, but is on the downslope. Now, yes, we are not in the position to be going out signing World Class players in their prime, but I'd rather sign someone on the way up than the way down.
It is this last point that makes me doubtful Levy would sanction the sort of outlay on fees and wages required, knowing he's getting a player who will be 32 before the year is out.
I can see where your coming from and agree to a extent but regarding the age thing I just think of klinsmann and the sort of impact he had at a similar age. And maybe even David's to a extent although with David's his performances weren't the same sort of quality you'd expect but sometimes it's what their signing CAN bring I.e a lift to the club and help out the youngsters

But IMO I still think he would do a great Job the fact he's still getting in and playing games for Spain and barca must show he has something?

What in the hell is wrong with you people. You do not neg-rep a legend. He was talking to me and I listened.

This man gave you Dave and Fazza's absolute breakdown. You treat him as what he is.....one of the Gods of SC.

Now remove your damn neg reps.

Sorry Ever. Carry on mate.

And lest you this is sarcastic, Ever is up there with A&C and Houdini and Stoof and RSS and all of the other funny guys that have molded this into not only a great Spurs site but a great site period. They are the reason this board not only exists but is the best thing on the internet. I learned from them. And when they tell me to "fuck off", I fuck off fast.
Happy, it was a little bit of fun, and not meant at all to be offensive. I'm very happy to remove mine. :)

probably been said, but I think benteke and villa are our number 1 targets, with damiao and soldado plan b.

Are we really still having the 'Is The All-Time Record Goalscorer For The Reigning World Cup Holders And Double European Champions Good Enough For Us' debate?

Jesus Christ.
Is the all time England highest goalscorer and world cup winner good enough for us? Now!

I don't think there have been any strong links to Beneteke. He's also double the price of the others and not really an AVB-type CF

I think Leandro is plan a, and Soldado plan b (there's not much between them, but Levy probably prefers Leandro because of his age)

I think Villa might actually be the plan b for Bernard (or vice versa perhaps). I think we'll either get a versatile forward like Villa, or a versatile wide player like Bernard, alongside a big goalscoring #9.

I can see you're point too, he would give us a lift in prestige to have a player of that calibre. I just don't personally believe he's the style of forward we need. I think we need someone with similar technique, but a bit more athleticism/dynamism up top, if we continue to play one focal striker with two deeper/wider supporting forwards. Now those players don't come cheap, so it's always going to be someone past their prime, or yet to reach it. Hopefully the latter.

I wish people would not just assume that just because he had a box poacher at Porto in Falcao, then that is what he'll try and put in every team. Most of that Porto team was assembled before he arrived. At Chelsea he has an institution in Drogba and the owner's toy in Torres. And here, he obviously hasn't had a chance to mould the forward line.

If we want to bring Villa in and are planning to keep Defoe and Ade... Does that mean... We might not...be going for Bernard anymore? I really would be surprised if Villa would come to us and be happy to play out wide instead of central but saying that 3 older strikers just doesn't add up in my book. Would be very, very disappointed if this is the plan........ Please don't be the plan...

I don't see why we couldn't be getting.....

Paulinho
Bernard
Villa
Damaio or JD

Bale - Villa - Bernard
Lennon - Ade&Damaio - Villa

Villa, Ade and Damaio/JD as our three strikers with Villa also playing games on the left so that there's more chances up top in the middle.

The likelihood is then that Ade wouldn't get as much time and would probably look to move next summer. At that point we could then look at getting in a young talent to replace him
