Lovren still on the radar :cautious: We wouldn't pay the £25m though. I'd rather pay £35m on R.Rod and Schar than £35m on Lovren and Davies

But can he make first team appearances before then, if he is good enough? Wouldnt he count as an academy player?

No - he can't sign a contract until his 18th birthday, and until he signs a contract he can't apply for a work permit.

No work permit, no work. So, he can train with us, play non competitive matches etc, but I believe under immigration rules he can't be paid for doing so - and I would also expect he would be limited on the length of time he was in the country (depending upon his visa).

The only way around this is if he (or a close family member) held a UK or EU passport in which case there would be no restrictions.

Did I not read that he has family in the UK?

Not bad is a fair assessment, but we need better than that, caulker Livermore and Kane are not gonna make the grade, we want players that have a future here not players who will be developed by us to go to a mediocre prem/champ side. I'd expect a big focus on this area

ot

Bentaleb will become our best central midfielder. Guarantee it. Guy has everything. Can tackle, strong, get forward, dribble, pass...I'd be starting him next season.

It's not just about spending the money though is it? If messi was available for 100 m and we payed it, do you think he would come?

Developing young players is a long term business

Spurs Academy was totally overhauled almost 10 years ago - but the first players to have benefited from that werre the year group which included Caulker and Townsemd.

Over the next few years we'll see many more gradates come through - and will see how many are good enough for Spurs or other clubs, so you'll have to wait for a few years to make a judgement
Good post. The fruits of the academy investment are starting to show. Very often, investment in players in mid 20s for £3-£7m is not good value compared to what is under your nose in the academy.

Whilst I don't rate him as highly presently, I can see why you do. When was the last time we had a player as gifted as he is at his age? Same goes for Harry Kane IMO.

Has anyone posted the new Trix stuff or is it awaiting mod approval?
Nothing awaiting approval, I guess nobody submitted it (whatever it was) as they were busy talking about Bentaleb's prospects, the merits of Danny Rose or Liverpool's spending spree.

we'll probably not sign anyone until after we come back from the states.

On the contrary JJ* has suggested certain things might happen quicker than expected but also Levy seems to be desperate to make us marketable in America, something that will give us airtime whilst on the tour will appeal to Levy. Wouldn't surprise me to see a Dawkins type deal done

* thus making this post ITK related :)

Slightly different? The bundesliga is not very confident at all. A one horse race every year. Sure they can offer UCL but we can offer a more competitive league. Eriksen and Lloris are examples of coming/staying with no UCL and Eriksen came from a UCL team. Plus, we won't get UCL without a new lb and Rod will go a long way in fixing that. Also, we could offer him a 1st team position. Teams who could beat us financially already have a better lb. Madrid (Marcelo), Barca (Alba), Munich (Alaba) ect. Fact is we could pay it, it would fix our weakest position and we could attract him. But we'll probably try and get Davies on the cheap and be in the same situation next year. I just want a window where we buy 3-4 quality players instead of multiple bargains and not fixing our requirements!
