I would certainly look at Paulinho (Sao Paulo), Borja Valero (Florentina). Mccarthy(Wigan) is also quite under rated at that position.

as it happens, all players we've been linked with. Great minds eh? :sneaky: Or are you holding a copy of AVB's wishlist?

To keep our model sustainable there has be flaws to Levy's technique, as he needs to keep spending down whilst bringing in players without risking too much. I think it is fairly clear that guy is far from perfect but there probably isn't a better chairman around.

Whilst the original anti-Levy post was about as OTT as you can get, this risk/reward issue is the elephant in the room. Levy is doing a very good job but without taking more risks, we will never make it to the next level. That doesn't mean wild, irresponsible risks but any successful business had to take risks at one stage to grow.

IMO we need that DOF to allow Levy to move further into the background as far as negotiations go. Levy's MO will always remain the same and is one of the reasons why I don't think having a new stadium will be the holy grail that some do. Obviously, greater turnover means more spent in absolute terms but I bet Levy still won't spend above market value (or his own perception of value) for a player, nor will he change his negotiating style.

Let's not turn the Daily ITK discussion into pro/anti levy posts all the time eh?! Let's talk about the players and we can leave the pros and cons to Levy's methods to another thread or to the end of the window... no?

I mean come on, we even have A&C making comments on the subject!! Whatever next?!

Soooo back on topic from me as well...
The Brazilian links are very interesting, Barnard in particular... wonder whether we are even actually going for Leandro or even if we are, are not going to pursue hard unless prices are favourable and Inter play ball. In mean time we try and pick up some other hot prospects whilst looking out there.

Arsenal potentially after Rooney might help take their eye off of Villa... just enough for us to appear more interested.

There was also talk (Rebrab was it?) that today we might start hearing a lot more, it being the first Monday of the transfer window. Time will tell, but would be good to get back to player discussions in here.

I must have missed it but I don't remember any ITK on Paulinho this "window" so far.
Front two of Damiao & Paulinho should be worth a look should it not.

Happy with the first statement.
Funny as it sounds, not so happy with the second statement, but at the same time not totaly anti his negotion style, as I want a sustainable Spurs.

Can't see Hudd, Parker and Livermore all going tbh. That's not to say we won't entertain offers for all of them. If I had to put money on it then I'd say at least one of them will still be here. It would be pretty much a total re haul if that were to happen though. I'm all for that and it will remove the temptation to play them I guess.

Mind you there is that Can guy that ITK was pointing at also - maybe he will be on his way.

Not sure a new DoF will make much difference other than in the identification of the types of players needed. Levy will still have very firm control of the purse strings. Someone mentioned how things were done under Frank Arnesen. He was at Spurs when we more or less had to totally rebuild both the First Team squad and the reserves as they then were. Now we are seeking three or four players to take us to the next level. Arnesen had a relatively easy job as anyone who could kick a ball half decent was OK.

Possible that Holtby could be given the CM role. Many of us have written him off already. I believe he needs a preseason & work with Andre and hopefully get a proper role in the team.

Can anyone remember if we were any more efficient in buying when Arnesson & Comolli were at Spurs?

Arnesen's job was to get rid of 75% of the previous squad and get in bodies - and spreading the money meant that quality was not guaranteed, punts on players were often the order of the day (eg Atouba).

Comolli's job was to improve the squad - some successes but also our worst disaster called David Bentley (£16m buy price plus 5 years at £3n pa so a £31m cost over 5 years.....).

With the squad Spurs have now - which is a big step up from either Arnesen or Comolli had to work with - its not that easy to buy the players at affordable prices, so its unlikely to be as radical overhaul as Arnesen or Comolli could think of. The other way to look at it is that someone has done a decent job since Comolli left at improving the squad......

The last bit of ITK does specifically refer to Levy dicking around in the transfer market. So in this instance its probably a fair topic..

Its that or Leandro. Or perhaps the stadium naming rights.

Welcome to Purgatory.
