A few years back I watched an analysis on TV on why Keane was getting played ahead of Defoe. The main point that they made was that where as Defoe was quick to shoot and scored some good goals from outside of the box Keane made the runs into the box and was there for the tap ins, rebounds, etc.

So the point made re Damiao is a good one. Especially with Bale we have players who can create and score the spectacular - he would be the man in the box to finish the easy chances and how knows get the odd penalty.

on the contrary to Ade, who have been the man in the box to miss the easy chances and knows how to miss penalties... btw, I believe there hasn't been any penalty for us in any league game the whole 12/13 season...

This. Also, as much as Dempsey may have seemed like a passenger in some games, he also had this knack of being on the end of a parried shot, or a rebounding ball. We need more of this to polish off the easy chances, especially against the bottom half of the table that will more than likely double Bale on the ball and park the bus. Unlocking defences with a creative midfielder may be one part of the equation, but intelligent runs and finding space is the other, and I feel that neither Manu or Defoe really had this trait in their bag. They were better on the break and with space to play while running at defences. This unfortunately may be Lennons undoing also, unless he decides to lace up some shooting boots and take a run at the goals...

Welcome to the dark side. Give yourself up to it, it's going to take over your life now.

You do know that now you've popped your posting cherry it's only a matter of time before you become a pale skinned, bolt eyed gibbering wreck who constantly touches himself 'down there' and exposes himself in supermarkets, leaping about the tinned goods aisle bashing one out furiously when seeing positive ITK on the iPhone?

Or is that just me?

I prefer to do it in Homebase myself.

I remember we had been linked to Cavani before the WC in 2010, so I sat down to watch him in particular when Uruguay played, and I wasn't very impressed. I much rather wanted us to sign Suarez. Of course, Suarez turned out to be a decent player, but Cavani is better IMO. So I must say I'm a tad ashamed of my poor scouting skills.

Anyway, the fact that we didn't go in for him when he was under the radar (at least more than he is now) is still bugging me, but at the time we had a very different manager, and I think AVB knows a good player when he sees it.

Another thing to remember is that when I was unimpressed by Cavani, he was 23 years old. So is Damiao, and there are sever other strikers who have had "late" breakthroughs. Falcao signed for Porto at the age of 23, and how old was RVP when he started to bang them in for fun?

This post evolved a lot as I wrote it, and my initial point disappeared a bit in several others, but if we sign Damiao we can very well end up with him being or Falcao. I wouldn't mind that.

He's a lot better than just decent. He's probably in the top ten attacking players in the world right now.

I'm just wondering...

Currently linked to Bernard, Damiao, Villa, Pjanic, Vucinic, Soldado...

What will this place be like on August 31st when we've re-signed Andy Booth on loan?

how many of those have we had a good media link with and some ITK that we are after them?

In my lunch break at work, and was hoping for a lot more to read through! After yesterday's feast of ITK, today's been quiet. Oh well, can't have loads of info every day!

When you read the reactions to people's first posts, it really is a wonder that anyone ever comes back to make a second.
Pah! It takes a severe amount of abuse to not think about coming back again. I was "savaged" by the "Community" after my first post. Still have nightmares about it and all I said was "I blame it on Fulop".

Nice first Bonqerz! Trust a bloody Aussie to post the coolest "first post" ever. ;)

I think its about time that Gareth Bale made a statement of intent. He knows that we cant go forward without knowing if he is going to stay or not. As it stands if he stays then our incoming transfers will follow a pattern, if he goes then it changes.

I'd say three at least Chris, Villa, Damiao and probably Soldado?

I'm still waiting with baited breath for the Booth ITK.

IIRC deals in Brazil are done in US$ so the 20m would have been US$ which, at the current exchange rate = £13.1M. So if we have got him for less than that then it's a good deal, IMHO. Whilst you can't say there have been no bad players that have played forr Brazil, there aren't that many. He has shown he has the touch and skill, we just need to make sure he is motivated. :cautious:

Depends what you mean by done. US$ are used as a common currency, but so are € and then of course at the end of the day it all has to relate back to R$ for accounting purposes.

In Brazil the currency that gets announced for deals is nearly always R$

I bow to your superior knowledge of Brazilian transfers and releveant currencies. I do, however, like the thought that the 20m could have been R$, 'cause that would have meant the R$20m = £6.32m. Now that WOULD be a good price. :D
