Trix, I like this post a lot, and I hope many here read this and understand it.
It's anot about marquee signings anymore, or big names, it's about creating a club (I use the word club meaning the whole club) where we can not only progress players through the ranks, but subside the first team with players that are actually needed in positions that are critical.
This window does have a very different 'feel' about it, and I was very excited about the fact we started with our biggest problem last year (defence).
Yes we are still light up top and in the middle (defensive middle) and I expect these to be addressed before the window closes, but whom we bring in, I trust the methods and people that have been brought in, thus leaving Poch to continue building this season.
Still very excited about this year, and looking forward to see the completed squad come Tuesday evening.
I wish I could like this and Trix's post 1000x, hit the nail on the head. People want to act like we are the only club who bought "flops", see Cuadrado, Falcao (so far) etc etc. We used the Bale money and took a punt on some established players (Soldado) and some exciting talent (Lamela). This is obviously not our standard SOP, but we got the cash influx and decided to go for it. It didn't work out unfortunately. There are so many massive things on the horizon for our club. We have an amazing new stadium coming, a super lucrative deal with the largest sport in the United States, and signing Son will most likely see us get massive support and probably some deals (training kit, stadium naming rights etc) with major South Korean corporations.
The support for Poch from Levy/ownership and the revamping of our scouting system with Paul Mitchell, as well as the a major focus on our youth development, means we are planning for the future. I'm very excited to see where our clubs goes in the next 5 years as I think they are absolutely critical to our long term success. Maybe I am less jaded than some of you since I have only been following Spurs since 2010 but I like the direction we are moving and very much look forward to the future.
