Very good this season in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, Josko Gvardiol is targeted by Tottenham. The Spurs have taken information from the German club. The 20-year-old Croatian is under contract until June 2026. #Mercato #Spurs

I would LOVE Gvardiol

But I just can't see us spending £70m+ on him.

No technical or physical weaknesses, only rashness and concentration issues to cut out of his game. It may seem extreme but if I was Paratici I’d put 80-90 mil on the table and be happy with my decision. Would be as close to perfect as possible tbh.

absolute dream signing. Difficult to see the really big boys sleeping and letting us have him…but it happened with Ndombele (lol) and Romero I guess.

If all positions are filled as per Conte wishes, and we have money left , then Gvardiol will be a big yes to go after even if its 80-90m£
Knowing our past, these are the signings we will not even want to touch. I hope we make a statement signing. He is worth that weight of money

I do have some hope, in that Paratici did pull the trigger on 75m DeLigt deal in past. He isnt shy of spending high on CBs.

If we were willing to spend 60m on Bastoni, then maybe if things switched around a bit (or an outgoing that we weren't expecting), then I can see us adding 20-30m more and getting Gvardiol (if he's really that special).

The 100m draw down does make me wonder if we’re still looking at Bastoni though. If most transfers these days are paid in installments, why would we draw down 100m now unless we needed a significant chunk to put down in one go? Assuming that what has been reported about Inter’s financial position is correct and they need £60m cash at hand by the end of June(?) it seems a bit of a coincidence to be putting ourselves in a position where we can provide that in one hit.

Even if Inter were to sell Skriniar to PSG for 100m, they are not likely to see the balance of that for a few years - only the first instalment, therefore they would have to have a number of players lined up to leave in order for the first instalments on those players to equal £60m.

PSG could very probably pay for Skriniar in one payment, but they will have FFP to comply with which may prevent them from doing so. We, on the other hand, have a slush fund that has been raised inside FFP and gives us the flexibility to drop a £60m wedge on the table if we so choose.

Just a thought.

It doesn't quite work like that. For FFP purposes a sale is treated in full in the year it occurs. So upfront cash has no real bearing unless the club has current cash flow issues.

Also european clubs are known for selling large transfer debtors to 3rd party finance companies for a commission to get the cash up front. Inter did exactly that with Lukaku in fact. They get say 90-95% of the fee up front and the buying club pay the installments to the 3rd party.

The cash will give us flexibility though for sure. Might help us grease some deals through (up front agents/signing on fees for example).
