De Ligt is still a teenager and Mawson is 24. There's an argument that it's actually pointless to spend a large sum of money on Mawson if all he's ever going to be is a back up. There's obviously a longer term aspect to signing De Ligt. I think many would expect him to be Vertonghen's eventual replacement when he's 21/22.If we could get him for under 30m it would be decent business. He's young enough to improve and would be competent back up. It would be pointless splurging 50m on De Light when he's unlikely to unsurp Jan/Davinson
If back up is all we want then we could just get Jonny Evans in for next to nothing.
