Overton in for Woakes for Old Trafford. Not a big fan of Overton. I get that Woakes needs a rest, there were rumours of a slight injury, hence the lower workload of 10 overs at Headingley. And I get Overton instead of Curran given that Old Trafford is expected to be a pacey and bouncy pitch. Overton is obviously a lot taller than the skiddier Curran.

But I still don't think Overton will set the world alight, meaning we'll be heavily reliant on Broad to take early wickets (which is when he takes his wickets against the top order) and obviously Archer on a pitch which ought to suit him perfectly.

Also of course, Denly to open the batting with Roy dropping down to 4 is an obvious change. Still feels like a flimsy, square pegs in round holes kind of top order, but at least we won't have a bloke who obviously can't cope with the shiny new red ball moving around at the top. Not that Denly is top class, but I reckon he has more of a chance of surviving 10 overs than Roy at the moment with the new ball.

Overton is your standard military medium, 80-82mph county swing bowler. He can also bat a bit. I personally would've chosen Curran to give the batsmen something different to look at.

Once again over looking a player who played against the Australia A team earlier this summer scoring both runs and taking wickets for a player coming straight out of the county game (that's only been playing white ball cricket) Top stuff. Due to the fact that no one wants us to genuinely let the Aussies regain the Ashes then I hope it's the right decision but it continues to highlight why the England Lions set up is farcical.

I'm not very confident that we're going to get a result here. We've got into very good positions in every test match then wasted it and it's taken a once in a lifetime innings to get us a win which was (I believe) captain fantastics first ashes test match victory. I can see us losing this by something like the margin we should have at Leeds and the papered over cracks will reveal themselves again. Time will tell, lets see.

Oh and Overton? There's a Boris Johnson style buffoon somewhere in the selection process that needs sacking. Urgently.

Hoping for a convincing win. Expecting defeat to be snatched from the jaws of victory.

Old Trafford weather maybe saves the day. ??

The Brexit mob will be in today for a days rest.
Looking forward to a nice restful game of cricket.

On the other hand it could all over by tea-time.
Australia won toss and batting: Jofra fired up and steaming to go.

Broad is definitely Warners nemesis this series.
Just need to knock over Smith and Labushagme and we'll be in.

14.3 overs of the match gone and we have a deep point...

Brilliant Joe :banghead: don't protect the bad balls, bollock your bowler for bowling that dross!
