Assuming Vlad is injured, I would be very happy with that. I would bring Lennon on in the 60th min to completely destroy their tiring defence and maybe Holtby for Pauly to to add the clever ball against exhausted minds.
I was assuming Vlad was out - don't know what his current status is. I also wouldn't mind doing it the other way, with Lennon starting and Lamela coming on later, even in place of Paulinho depending on how we're doing. I think there are pluses and minuses either way, as long as we keep their defence stretched. Got a good feeling about tomorrow if we use our attacking options.

Whoever plays I hope avb tells them that the gap to the scum will be down to 5 pts if we win. With some decent fixtures coming up over Christmas we could be above them by new year.

The fact of the matter is though mate is that Defoe and Soldado have both put in their share of no more than 'competent' or 'good' performances in the league.
I would start Soldado because his confidence is high and he has the potential to be a lot more emphatic for us (if he does play well) than Defoe, but let's not kid ourselves here with our shiny new signing tinted glasses, Soldado doesn't look greatly suited to the lone role either going on previous games.
As much as people won't admit it, Defoe hadn't been a great deal worse than Soldado at all.

Also, all this Dawson is gonna get raped talk is reminiscent of the comments over Naughton before the last game.

I actually think Soldado needed to be dropped for a game to give him a kick up the arse. His work ethic and running off the ball somewhat diminished leading up to our barren spell. Prior to that, despite only a few goals to show - he played really well as the main man up front.

But the fact remains if both Defoe and Soldado aren't in form, at least Soldado gives you some presence and hold up play.

Soldado does suit the lone role. He's played it for years in la Liga. But you might as well put him in goal playing 2 inverted wingers.

On the whole Defoe doesn't.

Midfield has to be Sandro, Dembele and Holtby. Dembele is firing like a beast again, Holtby's looking classy and will be fired up for this one and we need Sandro to bully their attacking players. Lamela or Lennon on the right, Townsend on the left. If Lamela gets picked Soldado should play so that we can have a real creative passing and movembt triangle between those 2 and Holtby. If Lennon starts on the right we'll be more direct and I don't really mind who's up front

so where's dembele?

Paulinho is needed for his goal threat, holtby for his creativity and Sandro is just a beast.

It's a difficult decision as Dembele is in form but I think the above 3 are a good combination. Plus his game is more suited than those 3 at making an impact from the bench.

Lloris
Walker Capoue Chiriches Rose
Sandro Dembele
Lamela Paulinho Eriksen
Soldado

Capoue while not a natural CB is a tad quicker than Dawson and a better reader, just cannot afford to play Dawson against Suarez... I hope AVB agrees.

If we play creative wingers then the suffocating monster trio in midfield WILL work.

I expect to see

Lloris
Walker, Capoue, daws, rose
Sandro, paulinho
Lennon, holtby, chadli
Defoe.

But I would want

Lloris
Walker, Capoue, daws, rose
Sandro, dembele
Lennon, paulinho, Townsend
Soldado.

Well, form is one thing, but who keeps possession in that line-up? Without Dembele or Eriksen in the midfield, we have no players there who can retain the ball, create their own space or get past a defence. Relying totally on passing ability without any ball players. I can't see it.

Firstly, our squad ( although not playing great yet) is sooo strong, so most players we have available could have a realistic chance to start!

However, if I was AVB I would go with:
Hugo
Walker. Dawson Vlad. Rose
Sandro Dembele
Lennon. Paulinho. Townsend
Soldado

With the impact subs being (obviously hoping no forced subs due to injuries or red cards):
Holtby for dembele or paulinho
Lamela for Townsend or lennon
Capoue for Sandro
These subs clearly depend on performances

Dembele is a must start player at the moment, especially up against a Gerrard-less Liverpool midfield. The guy is a powerhouse. For me it's a toss up between Paulinho and Holtby as the third amigo. I'd go Holtby as Paulinho has looked tired lately, but no fussed either way

Well, this is a selection headache and no mistake. Its a good thing though, it shows that at least we have options and are not having to make do with the same basic eleven week in, week out even when we are suffering from a host of injuries.

The back five is really tricky, Lloris obviously but then the only definite one of our defence to start would be Walker. He seems to have come in to form of late and will need to be at his best to handle Coutinho.

The centre back pairing is the hardest choice, We can pretty much assume that Dawson will start, if everybody was fit he isn't who I would want to start but he is our only fit centre back so he is a given I suppose? I'm not sure that Suarez will have as much of a field day with Dawson as others are predicting, not solely down to Dawson's prowess, but rather because Sandro should, and I hope will, be employed to man-mark the cannibal. Between the pair of them, I think they will be able to rough him up enough that he loses his cool and is put off his game.

To join him is a tricky one, Vertonghen is almost definitely out and we are none the wiser with Kaboul's fitness. Even if Kaboul is fit, he had a nightmare against Citeh and he might need a few games to get up to speed. The Wham game might be better for him to ease back in to the fray. Chiriches may be back, he is looking more likely to be fit but again, its not certain. He is however, who I would select for this game. After him we have Capoue. He is an able deputy and if Chiriches is unavailable then he is the man to take the second CB place.

In front of the defence, I think everyone is in agreement that Sandro is who we need. To marshal the defence and keep Suarez out the game. I would want him to really get in Suarez's face, give him a hard time and rough him up a bit. To not let him out of his sight or give him any breathing space at all.

With Sandro in the middle, just pushed forward in front of him, I would have Dembele. We all know what he can do, his confidence is high and he seems to be playing without fear. Next to him Holtby has to start. He has played his way in to the team with his recent excellent performances and Paulinho has looked like he is running on empty. Also the fact that he seems a shoe-in for every league game regardless of form, a little kick up the butt to let him know that he will be dropped if his form drops will be good otherwise he could well become complacent. Also I wouldn't drop Holtby now because, as with Soldado, it could ruin his confidence after some really good games just when he is showing his quality.

Either side of them, I would have Lennon on the right and Townsend on the left, I was tempted to give Lamela another start on the right as he looked real good in the first half on Thursday and think it would do him good to give him a little run in the team in his primary position to get his confidence up but this isn't the type of game that we can afford that luxury, I would look to bring him on at some point though.

Up front it has to be Soldado.

Well, I think we might have an answer to the 'why was Defoe starting?' puzzler: Roberto Soldado has said in a recent interview that his wife lost a baby she was expecting 2 weeks ago - I expect AVB decided not to start him if he wasn't feeling in the right frame of mind.

Poor guy, what an awful thing.:(

I understand your point, I just don't take records with much serious thought. I mean, we used to boss man city every match but they've thrashed us in two recent games and look like they now have our number instead. Basically, it can all change very easily.

You really think he'd play Capoue at CB and leave Dawson on the bench???

that's just the team i'd hope for him to play, writing it out makes me feel better given the fact that i know he will play Dawson (and defoe) unfortunately :(

i'd expect him to put this team out:

lloris
walker dawson chiriches naughton
sandro paulinho
townsend siggurdson lennon
defoe

I'm no big Dawson fan, but I'd much rather see him look after Suarez than Capoue.
I am a Defoe fan, but I'd rather see Soldado tomorrow.
