Do you honestly believe we'd get a result with that team?

Why not ? Its closer to the team I had selected too...Lamela for Sissoko only change.

For one thing, this team does work in the pitch. No problems with the build up play. Wanyama & Winks worked well as a partnership in preseason. Back 4 is not the worst - though playing CCV away at Moscow is a big ask. Toby may end up playing instead.

Confidence that kids like Onomah, Winks, CCV got in league cup will be massive. But I can certainly see this working well against a reasonably week CSKA side

No point rushing anyone back, especially someone as crucial as Dembele. I'd rather he miss this game and even give Winks (I don't think he'll play) a go, in order to rest him for the weekend.

Thought Dembele and Dier just had cramp against Sunderland?

Please don't tell me no Dembele for City, would be a huge miss.

exactly - being fed bs - only cramp and no problem plus Rose was almost ready to come back two weeks ago.
Probably why Kane length of absence not revealed

I agree with those that think we need to play close to our best available 11 in this, and then do the same (with a couple changes) for Man City. It's the only way to go about it right now. I'd argue that this is more of a "must win" than City is, even given the six-pointer nature of the City game. Getting out of the group would be massive for us, and we need to make it a priority right now.

Not having Dembele or Dier is a blow, but I'm honestly not surprised that they haven't traveled. Davies is more than a fine replacement for Rose, and Sissoko isn't a big miss at this point (other than in a rotational sense). Our bench will necessarily be limited, which is where missing these players will really show.

Lloris
Walker -- Toby -- Verts -- Davies
Wanyama -- Winks
Lamela -- Alli -- Son
Janssen

Subs: Vorm, Eriksen, Wimmer, N'Koudou, Onomah, Edwards, Trippier

It's tough to pick among Winks, Eriksen, and Dele, but I think one of the latter two needs to be extra fresh for Sunday. If we do go with Eriksen and Dele, then I think it'll be more of a 4-1-4-1, though it's easy enough to switch between that and a 4-2-3-1 given changing needs of the game. I'd also be half-tempted to start Trippier to give Walker a bit of a rest, and I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Poch actually did it. He's a worthy backup and can do a job, and it's so important not to run Walker ragged considering how much yardage he logs each match.

Damn...Kane, Dier, Dembele, Sissoko, and Rose all out. Crazy.

I'd be OK with this, though I think I'd marginally prefer

Walker -- Toby -- Verts -- Davies
Wanyama -- Alli
Lamela -- Eriksen -- Son
Janssen

But I have full confidence in Winks

I thought that was dispelled a day or so later when he said both Dembele and Dier had gone for scans? You don't get a scan for a cramp.

I think the "cramp" story was only after the game before they really had a good assessment. I don't think we can read too much into not traveling to Moscow in terms of being prepared for ManCity.

It's 5 days rest until City so resting players for that game isn't as much as a priority. Could see the same team that faced boro with exception of lamela for sissoko. Possibly trips for walker. But not much else.

Is anyone really shocked Pochettino doesn't want to send players who have had a recent muscle injury on a plane for four hours there and four hours back?

Amazed this has shocked anyone, it's just good practice.

Just seen the injury news. Not good at all. Lose this one and we are in real trouble.

Winks and Onomah are absolutely good enough to step in here.
Pochettino is not going to give Winks his full debut away at a hostile environment in a Champions League tie no less - ain't gonna happen and nor should it.

He'll be blooded through properly and we'll reap the benefits for it as he's undoubtedly a real talent that needs nurturing so chucking him in at the deep end in Moscow isn't conducive to aid his progression IMHO.

You mean like the result we got at home to Monaco ?

That was more of an exception. What you are talking about is essentially throwing the competition away. If Poch sends out that team, we lose and thus find ourselves unlikely to get out the group it would be unforgivable.

I see your point.

But Winks' full debut cam against Gillingham last week.
