With our style of play, yes. But I fuckin love me some Daws. The decision to stay and fight for his Spurs shirt instead of guaranteed play every week secured him a no(?) homo spot in my heart forever.

no sentiment in football mate. lets get some random romanian bloke who's peoples opinions are largely based off a 3min youtube compilation highlighting his attacking prowess and not his defending to replace a spurs man through and through for 9 years onto the scrap heap (y)

A PLACE IN OUR FIRST TEAM ISN'T ACHIEVED THROUGH A POPULARITY CONTEST.

Yes Daws is a lad, but he's a fucking clumsy and erroneous one at that.

A lad that also isn't even in any sane Spurs fans theoretical strongest XI.

There is no place for sentiment, not if we want CL football.

I know mate, he's obviously 3rd/4th choice when all are fit but he deserves more respect. When you have everyone and their mums complain about mercenaries and the lack of loyalty yet are willing to ship out a player like daws at the drop of a hat it does smell of hypocrisy

Was listening to David Pleat earlier this week on the radio and the old boy made several interesting observations on modern day tactics. Essentially, he thought the modern game was getting far too predictable and with the almost universal adoption of 4-3-3 - too many matches were becoming a drab affair as teams simply cancelled each other out. I would love AVB to set out a form of 3-5-2 that would play to our strengths with the players at our disposal:

e.g)

----------------Lloris------------------------
-------Kaboul Chiriches Vertonghen-------
Lennon --- Sandro Paulinho --- Chadli
---------------Eriksen
---------Lamela
---------------Soldaldo

In the above formation, you have a fluid side that can defend and attack as a unit.
- You have 3 centre backs who are combative but comfortable on the ball and intelligent off it.
- A centre mid in Sandro/Capoue or even Holtby who is energetic, determined and can help protect the centre backs.
- 2 wide men, Lennon and Chadli who love to run at full backs and support attacks yet who also offer defensive qualities when called upon.
- A box to box player in Paulinho or Dembele whose versatility is vital in this formation.
- A creative mid in Eriksen/Holtby and Siggy who will have licence to roam left to right in the opposition half and connect defensive/midfield to attack. Offers that 'killer' defence splitting ball.
- A dynamic attacking player in Lamela who loves to find space and run at defenders and support the striker. Provides that piece of individual brilliance.
- A striker who finds the back of the net when provided service. Clever movement and non stop work rate.

Back to Saturday, pretty sure we will see this:

Lloris
Walker Dawson Vertonghen Rose
Dembele Sandro
Townsend Eriksen Chadli
Soldaldo

Id rather see Holtby in place of Moussa but think the Belgian will start.

MASSIVE EDIT! (Wasn't meant to put Paulinho in...don't think he will play following long trip!)

SO we either play with no full backs at all or with 12 players. You've really given this some thought. Do come again ;)

Lol saw my mistake - didn't mean to have Paulinho in as explained in my edit!
As for the first team, no I don't think we need to play with full backs as also explained.

This will be our starting XI on Saturday, you can mark it down gentlemen. If we're still tied or God forbid losing late, Lamela will come in without doubt and I'd like to see Eriksen come in for plenty of minutes regardless.

With all due respect, not starting Eriksen, Lamela, and Paulinho is a recipe for dropped points. They are arguably the most talented players we have in the squad, and all of them are fit and talented enough to be inserted straight into the starting XI. Paulinho flew back from Boston, which is about as short a flight overseas as you can get from London. He absolutely needs to start in the middle of the park. Lamela didn't even play for Argentina, so I see no reason for him not to start, either. A long flight isn't going to impede him from creating chances on the pitch. AVB needs to play him. The same thing goes for Eriksen. We need his dead ball capabilities more than any continuity in the squad.

Lloris
Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Rose
Paulinho Dembele
Eriksen
Lamela Soldado Chadli
The above is our strongest eleven going forward, and at home, they would cause Norwich all kinds of problem. Starting Sigurdsson, Townsend and Sandro is a recipe for a turgid affair, where we will create virtually no chances for Soldado and will risk losing via a Van Wolfswinkel header against the run of play.
AVB needs to be bold and play our best 11. I think he gets that, judging from his comments today about Lamela and Eriksen featuring in some way. Does anyone think Wenger won't start Ozil on Saturday? Or do you think Pelligrini will not play Aguero or Zabaleta? We've got to play our best players. We kept Dembele and Lloris on the bench for Norwich at home last year and that game was the difference between us being in the Champions League or not. Let's not repeat that mistake!
